I just saw it. It may not be the best movie ever made, but it's at least a really good movie. One of the better religious movies ever made.
Then I went online and looked at reviews for the movie... While nearly every single IMDB user rating was 8-10 stars, virtually none of the film critic reviews were above 2 stars. The only exceptions of this being those from christian oriented websites.
I don't see how a movie could anger as many people as it did simply for existing. The simple fact that it was made for the religious fathers out there seemed to be a hot iron under the seat of these critics chairs the entire time they were watching the movie. More than one even cussed the films producers simply for existing, while most included a line like "having religion is fine, but don't shove it down my throat." I really fail to see how simply making a movie is shoving anything anywhere. They spent their money making the movie they wanted to make, then released it to the theaters who wanted to show it. They didn't force anyone to purchase tickets. They didn't hold anyone down and tape their eyes open so they couldn't not see it. All they did was put it out there for those who did want to see it.
