Stem cell researchers in New York can now use public money to pay women who give their eggs for research, a decision that has opened new possibilities for science but raised concern among some bioethicists and opponents of such research.

I have no idea who's paying for it, but different ones in need have sold their blood for years; they just seemed to produce and sell a lower class of product.

The stickler here, and why the price is so high, is that is will be for stem cell research.  The story doesn't seem to address that these eggs are likely to be fertilized in a lab at some point, the life process started, then ended for the sake of research.

I would image that if you needed a new pancreas, heart, kidney, eyes etc and medical science could "grow" you a new one via stem cell technology, $10,000 would be a small price to pay.  Smile

It's my understanding that they can get stem cells from the after birth instead of having to use eggs and embryos.
I'd be all for that. Also I seen a show where they can grow ears and other tissue from the cells of the damaged part. Amazing!
