'Ark of the Covenant' about to be unveiled?

The patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia says he will announce to the world Friday the unveiling of the Ark of the Covenant, perhaps the world's most prized archaeological and spiritual artifact, which he says has been hidden away in a church in his country for millennia, according to the Italian news agency Adnkronos.

Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, told the news agency, "Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries."

The announcement is expected to be made at 2 p.m. Italian time from the Hotel Aldrovandi in Rome. Pauolos will reportedly be accompanied by Prince Aklile Berhan Makonnen Haile Sellassie and Duke Amedeo D'Acosta. Full Story

This quote from the article may be significant....

Quote
According to Pauolos, the actual Ark has been kept in one church, but to defend the treasure, a copy was placed in every single church in Ethiopia.

How will he prove it is the original and not a copy?

This is interesting as well.  "Jeremiah 3:16 points to a time when the Ark will vanish not only physically, but from the minds of the people: "And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.""

I think it is quite probably a fake. Jewish Rabbis say they know where its at, and according to what little I can find out it is in the land of Israel, in a hidden spot they call the Guph, pronounced GUF. We will just have to wait and see I suppose.

Tantor - Don't look at it!.. turn your head and keep your eyes closed!  Whatever you do don't look!

larry2 - It's so true, Harrison Ford and Karen Allen wouldn't have lived to tell about it if that advice were not taken.   Smile

I have wondered though that if something like that were brought forth, great public adoration of it would take place like the Shroud of Turin spectacle. Many over time have sought Noah's Ark, and just how would that change the hearts of man?

But with Israel, there is some possibility that if a new temple is built, an Ark of the Covenant would certainly draw Israel back into their worship quickly. Their tribes would be numbered and sorted by banner again according to their marching order, and Levites would miraculously appear from all four sides of the earth to perform the sacrifices. Satan would then make a covenant with them 1290 days prior to the middle of the tribulation, and off to the races they would be. Something to think about.

Ethiopia - Ark of the Covenant Not To Be Revealed After All

If initial reports were to be believed, the patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia would have unveiled the Ark of the Covenant by now. Friday June 26, is almost over in Ethiopia. According to one blogger's account, it appears there is some misunderstanding between what was first reported in Italian and later translated to English. It appears that, adnkronos, the Italian paper that first reported the news, run a clarification in Italian, which you can read here.

Here is what Abuna Pauolos has said as reported in adnkronos

"Non sono qui per dare delle prove che l’Arca sia in Etiopia, ma sono qui per dire quello che ho visto, quello che so e che posso testimoniare. Non ho detto che l’Arca sarà mostrata al mondo. E’ un mistero, un oggetto di culto."

Translation courtesy of Google as follow. Another translation of the above statement is also posted here

"I am not here to give evidence that the Ark is in Ethiopia, but I am here to say what I saw, what I know and I can testify. I did not say that the Ark will be shown to the world. E 'a mystery, an object of worship."
via Google Translation

Another translation

"I am not here to give proofs that the Ark is in Ethiopia, but I am here to say what I saw, what I know and I can attest to. I didn't say that the Ark would be revealed to the world. It is a mystery, an object of veneration."
Translation from freerepublic.com

Another interesting read is from Baltimore's Examiner, you can read it here.

The story has generated huge interest in cyberspace which caused nazret's server to crash several times, we had a huge traffic spike that crippled our server in the past 24 hours. So there you have it, The Ark of the Covenant will NOT be revealed.

Now the other story, perhaps of interest to Ethiopians is, did Abune Paouls really see the Ark of the Covenant? Or is that a misunderstanding as well?

Exactly who do you think has a magical accurate list of geneologies stretching beack to pre-Jesus times, to be able to sort that out?  They can just barely do some genetic tests right now to show that some people named Cohen are probably from the same people-group.

Hi Janine, I do not think it will be individuals doing the sorting, but God. We see an example of that with the 144,000 selected in Revelation Chapter seven taken of the twelve tribes of Israel; even Levi is represented in Verse seven. It's certainly food for thought. Thanks for your reply.

I heard somewhere that one line of thought is that when the southern kingdom went into the Babylonian captivity that one of the king's daughters took the Ark away from old Israel.

There is a book that I know about. The book documents where there were what is thought to be Israelites on the North American continent before the time of Jesus Christ.

"America B.C.: Ancient Settlers in the New World" by author Barry Fell. You can buy used copies of this book on the Amazon dot com
(I would put a link but I just read in the forum where links are not allowed until you get 20 posts)

The last reference that I can find about the Ark of the Covenant is when King Solomon moved it to the temple.

2 Chronicles 5:7 "Then the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the temple, to the Most Holy Place, under the wings of the cherubim."

The book of Revelation says that the Ark will be revealed:

Revelation 11:19 "Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail."

In the first chapter of Genesis it talks about the "firmament." I take it that the firmament is the face of the earth. Then in Genesis 1:8 it says "And God called the firmament Heaven."

The book of Revelation says that the Ark is in heaven - meaning here on earth.

I believe that it is conceivable that the king's daughter brought the Ark to the North American continent.

The state of Arkansas is reported to have gotten its name from an American Indian tribe. Wonder where the Indians got the name?

Just a thought.

Personally, I would like to know why everyone thinks that the Ark still exists; when Nebby attacked Jerusalem, I imagine that the Ark was on his mind.  I believe that when the Babylonians attacked the city, they no doubt destroyed it along with the temple itself.  The only actual objects that the Bible does mention as having survived the assault were golden cups mentioned in Daniel.

Nowhere in the Bible is the Ark mentioned as having survived the attack.  I have never understood why people thought it did.
