Everybody Cut Footloose.

And, of course, this is on Yahoo's front page.  Is it any wonder fewer and fewer people are taking us seriously?

'"In life, we constantly make decisions whether we are going to please self or please God. (Frost) chose one path, and the school committee chose the other," England said.'

Wow, this guy sets himself up for a pretty hard fall saying this rule is God's.

Sorry if I'm blunt here, but thats just me.  The school is obviously taking things waaaaay toooo far.  Personally.....I wouldn't be a christian unless it was for rock music.....are you kidding me???  I grew up on healthy doses of Stryper, Petra, Whitecross, Holy Soldier etc. etc.  I would venture to say that millions...yes millions of people are Christians today because of the "right" rock music.
Secondly, I would say to the school.......WAKE UP & USE SOME COMMON SENSE!!!  He is doing NOTHING that is jeopardizing his faith.  Not everything in this world is evil or has to be questioned........G whiz!

In reading the article myself, maybe I do kind of understand the Christian school  viewpoints. But then again that Christian school does not have the right to tell somebody else in how to make the right judgments. There is a christian school(Church of Christ affiliation) here in Montgomery that do not have proms.Maybe because they think proms are worldly and secular,I don't know.

Quote
The teen, who is scheduled to receive his diploma May 24, would be suspended from classes and receive an "incomplete" on remaining assignments, England said. Frost also would not be permitted to attend graduation but would get a diploma once he completes final exams. If Frost is involved with alcohol or sex at the prom, he will be expelled, England said.

From that quote they are going too far making him fail his classes. Crying and sad. This is my question? What Would Jesus do in this situation when it came to making these kind of decisions that affects the student  Pondering

Just a thought Pondering

I disagree with the school's policy, but the student and his parents agreed to it up front. They signed a contract, and they should honor it.

I remember when the churches of Christ held the same views. They also held at one time that women wearing pants was a sin.

I'm not so sure they are far off the mark on rock n roll music. Rebellion and immorality are its constant themes, but then again so is country and that was never considered a sin.

whatever we or anyone else thinks, he signed the agreement and so has to abide by it. if his girlfriend cares about him she will just go with her friends and not expect him to break an agreement. It isnt the end of the world if he doesnt go is it? its only one dance. When he graduates he can do whatever he sees fit to do.

Ditto. If they disagreed they shouldn't have gone into contract. It's like signing a contract on a loan and then refusing to pay the interest.

I guess I do have to agree, if they signed a contract with this school, then they should be bound by it.

I don't agree with what the contract says, but obviously the parents wanted the good part of the schooling without accepting what they consider the bad.

I think the parents are doing a disservice to the son if they will defend their child's decision by dishonoring a vow they made in front of him.

Sticky situation. A contract/vow is a contract/vow. It should be upheld.

fundamentalist Baptist school that forbids dancing, rock music, hand-holding and kissing

The state school I teach at actually forbids hand-holding and kissing.  Hand-holding?  Seriously?

Kids react to the rule sarcastically, walking down the hall with their hands not-quite-touching.

btw, this school also has a frighteningly high pregnancy rate.

Guess it just goes to show that handholding isn't the cause of pregnancy.

No, we learned that when I was a teen.  It's dancing.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that! We were taught that it was mixed swimming.

I mean c'mon, if you're dancing all night who has the energy for anything else?  I don't know, what do you think?

If he is under 18, can the contract be invalid?
