I recently read a story in the local newspaper about a woman who went to India to have major surgery. She would have had to spend her life savings in the U.S. if she'd had it done here. In India, the cost was approx. a tenth of U.S. hospitalization costs. She had two private nurses and was treated royally, and recovered well. Many of the doctors in other countries were trained in the U.S., and were as skilled as U.S. surgeons. The woman did plenty of research before reaching a final decision on where she would have the surgery and said she would do it again if the need arose.

More and more people seem to be opting to leave the U.S. to head for other countries to have surgical procedures and treatments. Would you consider having surgery in another country? Or would you take your chances in the U.S., knowing that the costs are much higher, and patient care not as good?
On a side note, I do believe the government is trying to discourage people from leaving the country to have surgeries. Since I read that woman's story, I've noticed that on Fox online news, almost every day there is a negative story about hospitals in the U.K. and elsewhere outside the U.S.. Do you think it could be an attempt by the media to discredit foreign hospitals and doctors? I wouldn't put anything past the government at this point.
