American actress Sigourney Weaver hopes that her first TV movie Prayers for Bobby will help gay teens when they come out about their sexual orientation to their parents.

Weaver plays the real-life mother of tragic gay youth Bobby Griffith, who committed suicide in the 1970s after his religious parents spent years trying to ‘cure’ him.

According to the actress, Leroy Aaron's book of the same name, from which her new film was adapted, has become a tool some gay youngsters use to help their parents come to terms with their child''s sexuality.

What these confused teens need is to meet the Saviour Who can forgive them and cleanse them of that wicked sin. If his "religious" parents weren't Christian parents, they couldn't help him anyway--only pointing him to the One Who can help.

Are you saying that "Jews" could not cure him?

The ONLY one who can cure a sinner is Jesus the Christ, the spotless Lamb of God.

Just curious. I don't think I've ever seen or met a Jewish Homosexual. There are tens-of-thousands of them claiming to be Christian.

Well, if my child was dealing with homosexual thoughts, I would hope he would come talk to me about it, and not suffer alone in shame.  We could find a way to help him resist acting on them together, I'm sure.

love,

What I cannot understand is why anyone would want to live a lifestyle of which they are ashamed to tell anyone. Wouldn't it just be easier NOT to do it? There's NO such thing as I was born that way. We are an empty slate at birth on which a personality, beliefs, disbeliefs, desires, likes and dislikes are written.

Considering LifeTime's target audience consists primarily of emotionally dysfunctional women, it isn't likely this show will have any effect other than temporarily increasing sales of tissues and bon-bons.
