These kinds of interactions have taught me something.  It is possible for someone to be closeminded and judgmental without the usual conservative trappings I would normally expect.

Guess the best I can do with this is to take another break! ::tippinghat::

As per usual, Nick is the voice of sagacity in a tumultuous discussion.

Some CCM, Rock, Top 40, Jazz, Country, Big Band, Standards, Soul, R&B, and yes, even Classical is "dreck".  Some isn't.  We find ourselves dangerously close to universalizing our tastes and preferences.

Now, as to "Christian" businesses - I never select a business based on the presence or absence of a fish symbol in their Yellow Pages ad.  I select the business that will sell me the goods/perform the service I want with an acceptable quality at the lowest price I can find, without regard to where, or if, the owners go to church.

I've been ripped off by both "Christian" and non-Christian businesses.  I'll be the first to admit I get more sore about being taken advantage of by an alleged "brother."

OD, me neither, but how we deal with them is a good way to be in the world, but not to be a "part" of it.

A few years back I saw a van driving down Haywood Road in West Asheville.  On the side it said "Born Again Plumbers".

It often creates very uncomfortable situations at church when the relationship gets complicated by economic considerations.

If the goverment actually considered this to be a "violation of human rights", what would be next? Couldn't the same rationale, then, be applied to churches and their meeting times?

So, it had a good beat and was easy to skate to?

Yes. DC Talk had some excellent stuff as did Newsboys and Audio Adrenaline.

My kids like Newsboys real well.  We've heard the others but don't actually own any of their stuff.

I don't get how the "watchers" think they can gang up on a private business devoting only one of their many skating sessions to Christian music during the skating.

I guess it's worth people kicking against them, though, or they'll get some sort of action against the rink owners just because they've taken the time to agitate about "Christian Skate Night".

As for me -- I'll even take the poppy drecky run-of-the-mill CCM music, if that's all that's available, rather than a diet of secular stuff all the time.  My nearest CCM station will at least play me some Rich Mullins. Nicole C. Mullen, Michael W. Smith, D.C. Talk, Newsboys.

And I can listen to a station that's all Gospel -- as in urban, mass choirs and such -- and there's American Family Radio syndicated at night where I can get it.  Plus my own collection.  So I have some choices.  In my office I play Christian music often as not -- from Bach Masses to The Brothers Of Harmony.

If I were ever gonna strap on the skates again I'd like to have them playing even Point of Grace and Amy Grant, over much of the sex-drugs-fornication lyrics available in the usual skating rink music.

Sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll are terrible values.  Oh, for the good old days of wine, women and song.  ::disco::

I'm not a huge CCM fan...but I do like Jars of Clay and Michael W. Smith.  Speaking of Michael W. Smith, did you guys know that he recorded a song with U2 a couple of years ago.  It didn't make the cut for U2's last album, but it's allegedly going to be on their next one.

Regards.

Thanks.  You might check out this site, too.

WNCW is a public radio station, of all things, yet every Sunday morning from 6-9 am est, they have a real good old time gospel music program.  I've never cared for this style at all until I found it on this particular station.

This station plays an incredibly diverse mix of tunes.  On Sunday afternoons they have an incredible Celtic music format.  At other times they play the blues, old country, indie rock, etc.

Heh.  That klove thing, syndicated I guess, was available for a while over my closest Christian station, while they were trying to recover from Katrina.

I can get some French church music too on a Sunday from some of the country stations dotted around the bayous.

I've been exposed to CCM a little more lately for a couple of reasons.  On, I've gone to XM radio, and two, I pick up cds out of the $5 basket at the front of Family Christian Bookstore.  Recently I've got Jeremy Camp's "Stay" and Todd Agnew's "Grace Like Rain".
