Disunity in the Body of Christ
« on: Tue Jun 04, 2013 - 22:48:07 »
In his high priestly prayer (John 17) Jesus prayed that we in the Church be one as the Father and he are one.

Let the weight of that statement sink in.

For nearly 2000 years the Body of Christ has been splintered, fractured, widely divided and the underlying problem is people cannot agree with each other... over the things people have added to or taken away from the word of God.

It is just that simple.

All three major divisions of the Bible warn against adding to or taking away from the word of God.

The Law

Deuteronomy 4:2 (NASB95)
2 “You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

The Prophets

Revelation 22:18-19 (NASB95)
18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;
19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.

The Writings

Proverbs 30:5-6 (NASB95)
5 Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
6 Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.

Yet the traditions of men fill our denominational platforms, our doctrines and dogma, and our apologetics right along side the truth of the Gospel diminishing the Gospel by so doing.

Mark 7:8 (NASB95)
8 “Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”

Mark 7:13 (NIV)
13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”

You cannot add untruth to truth and be able to defend that truth as truth. At best you will have the divisions we have today. At worst you will have an ineffective Gospel to the masses of people who need Jesus just as much as we all do.

An atheist coworker who was {raised Catholic} said one Christmas "Oh Santa is fake and Jesus is real?"

How many of us have told the untruth that there is a Santa Claus? Or how about the birth of Jesus being on December 25th (when the shepherds would not be out in the fields with their flocks at night)... how much else have we gotten wrong and defended as right?

Take the so-called Apostle's Creed...

"I believe in God the Father Creator of heaven and earth..."

God the Father did not create heaven and earth. God the Word (who became God the Son in the incarnation) did. Alone. By himself.

Isaiah 44:24 (NIV)
24 “This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself,

The Father and the Holy Spirit were there in company with him...

1 John 1:1-2 (NIV)
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.
2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.

Genesis 1:1-2 (NIV)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

But God the Word did all the creating in the beginning.

John 1:1-3 (NIV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Colossians 1:13-16 (NIV)
13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

And again Isaiah 44:24 says that he (the LORD YHVH) our redeemer (the Father is not our redeemer nor the Spirit) our creator created alone by himself heaven and earth.

No wonder people find something so easily understood as the Trinity so confusing. The traditions of men muddy the waters of understanding. The late Dr. D. James Kennedy (a man I respect and learned much from) blew it on the Trinity in the example of 1x1x1=1. It's the same 1. Stated 3 times. In other words modalism / Sabellianism. Not trinitarian. For each individual in the Godhead is and does things unique to each of them. The example of the creation has already been given. Jesus alone created all things in the beginning... incidentally this is why he was the one in the Godhead to become a man and a sacrifice for sin. This is where the buck truly stops.

2 Peter 1:20-21 (NIV)
20 Above all, {know this FIRST} you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation.
21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 (NIV)
21 Test everything. Hold on to the good.

1 John 4:1 (NIV)
1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Acts 17:11 (NIV)
11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

John 14:26 (NIV)
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 16:13 (NIV)
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Not the Roman Catholic catechism, papal bowls or decrees, not the Protestant denominational platform, not the Messianic statements of faith... the BIBLE...

John 17:17 (KJV)
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

We are far more compromised than we realize.

For example...

Clergy / Laity.

Unchristian division.

Anti-christian division.

Bible says we are a holy nation (kingdom) of priests.

1 Peter 2:3-11 (KJV)
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

Revelation 1:6 (KJV)
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Revelation 5:10 (KJV)
10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

This is a Greek rendering of the Hebrew kingdom of priests...

Exodus 19:6 (KJV)
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

But the tragedy of Exodus 32 put an end to this and in the Old Testament under the Old Covenant there indeed was the division between clergy (the Levites) and laity (the other 12 tribes).

Not the New Covenant New Testament!

Yet here we are... divided and conquered or at least severely compromised...

There are many verses that speak of the unity God intended, but man always wants that which pleases the flesh ---so we have denominated sects arising every year.  Until the faithful saints learn to value Scripture only as the only authority for the faith, there will continue to be carnal ways among us.
