Fourteen years of reading everyday and I have wore out five bibles. Now on my sixth and its time for a new one. It seems every time I flip a page it rips and the pages stick. But thanks be to God a clear conscience he gives to serve him joyfully. Just think... what language does a new born baby know? The first thing every child knows is... crying out ... later however through constant repetition it learns how to speak an intelligble language. Likewise as new born babies crave pure spiritual milk so that you might grow up in your salvation... learn not the language of this world but that which comes from God and receive the commendation given to the church... you have been enriched in all your speaking... God bless.

My husband and I did not use the bible ! 
The church we came from only used prayer books.
So we did not get into the bible till we changed churchs
We were about 50 years old.  [ Thanks to our children]

I sure hope that church has changed.

Reading the bible every day, sure open up my mind for more !

That was back in the 40's ?   
We had Latin mass and Polish speaking.
As a child I learned to sit and be quiet.
As for the school , we learned a lot of the saints.
Which I have forgotten.
But no, all we had was a prayer book and rosary !
Same, thing over and over, and over again !
We were married in 57, and it was still the same.
I would think by now they have changed.
The Pastor was some thing else.
He even had pull as to who would live in his neighborhood.
There are a lot of people going to hell because of that Pastor !
I did notice those , like my husband and a friend I had went only to the
catechism ?"spelling"  class.  They learned more then I did in my 6 years going there.
Please  who ever reads this , do not take salvation for granted.

Hello Visionary ,
I just had a  wake up call , I had never seen a bible till I was married !
My husband had one , when he was in the service.

The priest at times would come down the isle before mass, carrying the "bible"
over his head.  I got a glimpse of when opened, it was in Latin I believe ?
Not English, but I do not know what it really was ?  Since the words on the page
were quite large, and in comparing to this one page would only have about   two to four  lines.   I would think , it was really just a prayer book , and  I believe I could  take off my glasses and read with out them , and then some.

My husband and I have come a long way, we have at least  five bibles in our home.
One at the computer , two in the car for church , two for home bible study.

The sad thing, is    I do not have any idea if any of our parents and brothers and sisters were saved?  Since we did not get saved our self till we were in our fifties.

What that church ? or Pastor put people through is  no   
Sin ~  If you went to another church, keep away from people who do not go to
the same kind of church.   We called him father ......... [no bible , no idea]
We would be brain washed if we went to another church !!!   That is what they were doing to us. 
Sorry to go on like this. 
You just cant take it for granted what other churches are doing !

I know I have been there, and over the years I keep  realizing how many dumb things that keep coming up , I had forgotten !

The best way to grow closer to God is to read it each and every day.  I read from the KJV this evening but I also like to read the English Standard.  KJV was my Grandma's bible as well.  Someone gave her a NKJV one time and I remember it just collecting dust as she tried to read it when she first got it but she said it was just somehow not the same.

Grams, I much appreciate what you are saying, as do all real "born again" believers.  I am about ready to pass beyond the 70's, and have had the privilege to studying the Bible for over 50 years (KJV).  I have acquired a very nice paper on why that Bible is so loved and dependable, which many Christians appreciate.

That sure would have been nice to have been brought up in the bible !
Of course then that bible would have been even bigger then it is now 
How amazing it is learn so much and yet to have missed so much .

Our son brought over a video of a Baptist preacher [ not sure of how to spell his name? Ruckman ?]  ("this was when we were first saved in our late 50's.")"
He draws and talk and its amazing to see what he ends up drawing.
But he was talking about some one getting into his bible, and one day he is going to catch them!
He said I am going to nail down my bible to the dresser !
And in the morning hes said, they got into it some how !!!
This preacher is now in his 90's. 
We at our church now have a great teacher !  I love going to church!
I hated going to church before !
