Hsing mental ill teenager

Deb:

Hi and wow!  My 13 year old daughter has a hard time focusing (she's a bit ADD) and will occasionally \"fight\" us about her schooling assignments, but I imagine what we are facing pales in comparison to your circumstances.  You have our prayers!

Unfortunately, I don't sense that the homeschool community offers a lot of help for children that have diagnosed learning disabilities as you have described.  Unless you have someone in your church or homeschool group who has a background in Special Ed, I hesitantly suggest that you're probably going to have to utilize the school system and the resources they can provide.  Was he successful when he was in the public school?

Deb,

I have sent an e-mail to my brother who runs a home school ministry for parents to see if he knows of anyone that may be able to help.  I don't know when he will see the e-mail because he and his wife have been in Dallas for a mother's who homeschool retreat they do every year and may not be back to Colorado yet.  He has tremendous resources but, as you indicated, your situation is some what unique.  If he has any info that he can pass on, I'll post it for everyone.

out of curiosity, what state are you located in?

Do you or do you know anyone who homeschools a mentally ill teenager?  My youngest ds is 15.9yo and is Bi Polar.  He was dxed ADHD at age 8 then BP at age 14.  I am having a difficult time getting him to do school work.  He was in ps until mid 6th grade.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, he was having a horrible time in ps.  That is the reason I took him out in the first place and then there was only the ADHD. I feel Bi Polar came a couple of years later when he hit adolescence.  You are right about the homeschool community not offering a lot of help for children like mine.  I was hoping beyond hope that I could find another parent from within the church who would knew what we are going through.  There are plenty of hs/ed children with learning disabilities, but I haven't found any with our situation.  Thank for your prayers.
