I was in a Pentecostal church for 3 years during my later High School years.

I believe God put me there, to learn things I can share with others....to warn them of the dangers there.

I saw laying on of hands, to heal people (supposedly).

I heard many people speaking in tongues, (And I thank God, I never did).

I heard prophetic predictions, which never occured.

I heard about the Rapture theory for the first time in that church, and I believed it UNTIL......I read everything that the Bibel say, about Christ's 2nd Coming, again.

Pentecostals tend to rely upon the Holy Spirit(?)....instead of believing what the Bible really has to say.

The Bible verse which really opened my eyes was:

Revelation  16:13   And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs [come] out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
16:14   For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, [which] go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

QUESTION: How do 'frogs catch their prey "

ANSWER: With their tongues !
Logged

1 Peter  4:17   For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God ?

If this were true you would be in heaven because your scripture choice refers to after the first rapture of the church. My personal opinion would be maybe you were in a church that was not lead by my Lord Jesus Christ. And then to the laying of hand to heal. Did Jesus apostles not do the same thing after Christ was risen and ascended? I believe in miracles as the Bible supports them

What did you see wrong with speaking in tongues? Read 1 corinthians 12 which talks about the gifts of the spirit.

What do you mean by relying on the holy spirit and ignoring what the bible really says? Tell me what is wrong with relying on the holy spirit.

3am, You sound a little confused. First, The Rapture and the Second coming of Christ are two different events, They are not the same thing.

While you are glad you never spoke in tongues, I am so glad that I do. This experience refreshes my Spirit, Through the Gift of tongues I am able to communicate with God.

I have seen People healed by the laying on of hands, I myself have been healed by this Practise, I have been healed simply by asking God to heal me.

I am sorry that you had a bad experience in a Pentecostal Church, But don't give up, try another, You may like it.

Where do you attend Church now.? I hope you are going some place.

Uhuh. I've heard all this before, and I'm still a pentecostal because there are misrepresentations, inuendos, and Scripture taken out of context.

warn them from? What?

Tongues? I thank God I do speak in tongues. Yes tongues will cease the bible says when all is perfected when will that be when the children of God reach heaven.

they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. Mark 16:18

If you would read your bible you will se that prophecy is very biblical.

The holy Spirit was sent by God to us when His son Jesus was taken up to heaven. The main purpose of the Holy Spirit is to teach us Jesus.

uh yeah ok dude. You do realize that scripture is talking about the tib don't you? We are NOT in the trib.

3AM, I believe you should start seeking the Holy Spirit.  To do so, just talk to Him directly in your mind in a quiet place and He will speak back to you.  Do not speak aloud as the devil can hear what you say and misguide you.  The devil cannot read your mind, this is why you have to speak in your mind.  Whilst you are communicating with tht Holy Spirit, He will put you right on everything you are currently confused about.

3AM - I heard many people speaking in tongues, (And I thank God, I never did).

larry2 -  Acts 19:2  Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed?

By your own words here, your confession of having not received the Holy Spirit may be the reason you do not understand the things of God's grace and mercy afforded you in His word. According to some of your other posts you scarcely seem to really know that you have eternal life, and seemingly must work your way to heaven by keeping every jot and tittle of the law.

Dear 3AM, God loves you, and has offered His Son to ensure your righteousness in His sight, and according to Titus 3:5  it is "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost." How are you ever going to improve upon what Christ did for us? Please wake up man. Galatians 3:3 says: "Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?"

May God show you the truth of His grace in the precious name of Jesus - larry2

Tongues could refer to the false prophets misleading people with their preaching of false doctrines. Not speaking in tongues. I never have and am kinda turned off by it. It is still interesting to me, though.

When the Bible speaks about tongues it means languages.  I have been in pentecostal churches where all they do is babel and cry out any weird sound that the tongue can produce.   And they do this all in the name of the Holy Spirit. The purpose of the gift of tongues is to bring people together in a common understanding of the spoken word.  When God confused the languages by the tower of Babel He did it to confused people and drive them away from the tower.  The purpose of the gift of tongues is to do the opposite.  Bring people together when people can't understand each other because of the language barrier.  God bless.

Davidandme - The purpose of the gift of tongues is to bring people together in a common understanding of the spoken word.  When God confused the languages by the tower of Babel He did it to confused people and drive them away from the tower.  The purpose of the gift of tongues is to do the opposite.  Bring people together when people can't understand each other because of the language barrier.

larry2 - I have no idea where you get that. 1 Corinthians 14:22  Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not.

Dear Davidandme, have you ever spoken in tongues? Has God used you to bring other peoples that can't understand together by speaking in tongues?

John 14:17  "Even the Spirit of truth; - - ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." Is He in you Davidandme? How do you know? The apostles all spoke in tongues; are you different? Thus the question in Acts 19:2: - -  He (Paul) said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?

In Jesus' name - larry2
