When we attempt to get ahead of God's timing, we may not reap the full benefits of waiting upon Him. Over and over in Scripture, the Lord urges us to wait upon Him, and for good reason, too. The Bible teaches that we are engaged by three enemies: the flesh, the world, and Satan who works against us through the other two entities seducing us to a pre-occupation with the cares of ourselves. Because a lot of us lack discipline to wait upon the Lord, many believers languish through life.

One of the most important things in a Christian's life is the discipline of waiting upon God. That does not mean the believer should live a passive existence. Rather, it means to deliberately consecrate ourselves to listen to the indwelling Holy Spirit. How refreshing it really is when we are discerning the will of God in every given circumstance. Rather, it meets with the peace of God that truly passeth all understanding. The glorious result of waiting upon the Lord is a renewed awareness of the worthiness of the Lamb of God that will breed a meaningful spirit of worship and a pattern of godly decisions. Amen!

How are some of the ways you wait upon the Lord?
Or do you wait upon the Lord?

Sweet post, fenton.

I think I wait upon the Lord in all sorts of ways --I never force anything --- I feel like
I follow "urgings" regarding most things - my mother always said -
"Oh, when the Spirit moves me."

And I find I do that also - if I have a long arduous dealing with someone I must do - I wait until the Spirit moves me ---then it is easy. If someone is pressuring me to go someplace with them and the Spirit doesn't move me - I don't hesitate to disappoint them -...and when the time is right for me - I call them to their surprise.

If I start a piece of art work and the Spirit doesn't move me -lights out immediately to start on it another day. Those are simple daily living examples. There is an internal thermostat or dial ---I stay tuned to that as much as I can..I certainly am out of touch with it sometimes as presented here on the forum ---but hey, it's a learning expereince to recognize that subtle feeling that WAS there that kind of urged me in the other direction...the one I decided not to take. And oops.
Another lesson on staying fine tuned.
Some may call it your heart, intuition, Spirit, angels -- for me it's all the same.

The Lord's urgings you can always trust. -Even if the mind says -"But, I'll be late." ---follow your "gut" - it's probably a message from above. (within, actually)

There is "reverse waiting upon the Lord" also ----if a friend hasn't called in days that is "supposed" to ---well, it must not be the right time for them ---they are waiting upon the Lord also.   So in this way - there is never a need for anxiety or impatience.

Practice makes perfect - so to speak. :)

fenton,
I am on page 31 of a book I've had for a year and decided to pull off the shelf ---
while right there in front of me it says:

"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."   Is 40:31 KJV
