I am not in favor of my tax dollars supporting religious institutions.  Believers are welcome to give as much as they want out of their own pocket books to their churches, but I do not want one cent coming out of my wages.  It may seem innocent enough to you guys, but before you know we could have institutionalized churches supported by tax dollars directly like they do in Europe.

I'm not a fan of the faith based initiative at all.  (I am also not a fan of a lot of other things our government does with the money that they take out of our pockets).

Just thought I would throw in my two cents (but the government will take a lot more)

The government already has that capability.  Ever hear of a 501©3??

From my Thursday 1/23 MSN/Slate news digest:
[!--QuoteBegin--][/span]

Quote

[!--QuoteEBegin--]The NYT says that the administration plans to allow religious groups to use federal housing money, so long as whatever is built with the funds is used to deliver social services.

Buildings that are duel-use {Janine's note... sp error or Fruedian slip?} will be eligible for dough, so long as the money is used for only secular areas.

Of course, as critics noted, there might not always be such a clear line between a building's sacred and service quarters. Which led Rep. Barney Frank to wonder, "Are we going to start sending in the inspector general to charge people with committing a bar mitzvah?"
So does Barney Frank like tax money going to faith-based sources of help, within guidelines?  We ought to ask him.

Barry, I don't think that will happen .  My problem is that the federal gov't will try to tell the churches what they can and can't do with the money.

Kevin, there's always the option of living "off the grid", doing everything in cash, using no bank or insurance or public utility... paying no taxes... building a fortress-house in the swamp or the hills or the caves...
