While I agree with you on pride, I think there's often a confusion of terms.  In the English language I think we need another word for "a healthy sense of accomplishment" or "self-respect" which is not the same as arrogance and conceit, but we use the same word to describe it.

Btw, as I've been preparing for a sermon this morning I was reminded of this passage that seems relevant to this point...


Gal 6:3-5
3   If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
4   Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else,
5   for each one should carry his own load.
(NIV)

It hits on both angles (not being arrogant, but having a sense of pride in accomplishment).
