House Democrats Introduce Bill To Limit Presidential Power
« on: Wed Sep 22, 2021 - 15:44:43 »
House Speaker and California Rep. Nancy Pelosi and a team of her fellow Democrats have introduced legislation that would limit the power of the presidency.

The legislation, if passed, would limit the power of future presidents, in an apparent swipe at the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, MSN reported.

The bill, dubbed the Protecting Our Democracy Act, includes a number of tenets to prevent presidential abuses, restore checks and balances, strengthen accountability and transparency, and protect elections.

Does it restrict the ability to issue Excecutive Orders?

I agree, but we can only affect those in our district or state. How does a country cleans itself of the likes of San Francisco or California from Texas or Missouri?

If there are more people like those of San Francisco and California than people like those of Texas and Missouri the country will become like San Francisco and California.  That is the plain fact of life.  And while I was once an optimist in thinking there were more like those of Texas and Missouri, I am becoming more pessimistic about that.  I fear that the old saying that people do not really change is all too true.  Conservatives are not becoming more Leftist.   Conservatives are dying and they are being replaced by those who are more Leftist.  Leftism is not instinctual; it is learned.  Conservatives lost that fight over 60 years ago; and it was not so much a losing of the fight, it was just that they didn't fight.  Big government only ends in one place, totalitarianism.  Big government begets bigger government.  There are far too many "conservatives" in government who actually favor big government.  That was my beef with Trump; he was a big government President; as were Nixon and both Presidents Bush.

I agree with Reagan when he said, we are only one generation from losing our freedoms. Each generation must fight anew for the freedoms we have. We aren’t far from waking up in a totally tyrannical country - Leftists Tyrants. Where medical tyranny like in Austrailia will be the norm. We are almost there. If Fauxi et al are not arrested soon, the transformation will be complete and will take decades to reverse. We are headed fast to a medical Apartheid existence. Thanks to the very real China virus bio weapon and the progressive overreaction to it.

Disagree... that's just shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

What we really need is a Constitutional amendment.

What does an amendment need to change in your opinion?

I don't think a constitutional amendment would do much at this point either.  Short of a revolution or coup, we are sunk.  I think we are destined to fall, with our culture we are just like Rome just before they fell.

Quite a lot, but since you asked for specifics, here are a few...

The compensation and benefits for Representatives and Senators needs to be set (e.g. 150% of gross median income).  Having them vote on their own pay/benefits is a bad recipe that has been abused.

The re-Apportionment Act needs to be reversed, and the House of Representives greatly increased in size.  The status quo is that we basically have two Houses of Lords, and no Commons, and that needs fixin.  This would also require them to re-write some of the rules on attendance and quorum.  It should be possible for all the Reps to attend remotely, and not live in D.C., which is a hotbed of corruption and lobbying.

So, in part, what you want to do is add more deck chairs, some on deck and some below deck somewhere?

Actually I don't disagree totally with some of what you have recommended, but the problem goes a much, much deeper than that.  We have had for the last two or three generations our youth being taught that capitalism is no good and the solution to the nation's problems is socialism/progressivism/communism.  And that is but a small part of the disgusting indoctrination to the younger ones.  To be honest, I am very pessimistic about the nation's future.  I don't really see any likely solution to the problems facing the country.

I am receiving a lot of requests, mostly from Republicans, to donate to their efforts.  My response to all of them has been that I donated quite a bit for the 2016 elections and we got a Republican House, Senate and President. Many of the problems that we are now facing, such as the border, the debt, the middle east could have been addressed and if not solved, certainly greatly improved.  It was not.  Why should I think it would be different this time? I don't think I should think it would be any different this time.  Perhaps things might slow up a bit, but no real change is likely to happen.  I will reserve my giving and support to more needful and useful endeavors.

If the government were to collapse, new government would emerge after a period.  Well, probably more than one.  That honestly might be the solution.  Let the two coasts be their own nations, and the part in the middle independent from them.
