Husky and built like an ox!
« on: Fri Mar 15, 2019 - 13:25:44 »

Sorry Brawny paper towels, but I'm a woman entering my senior years, and trying to hang on to the last vestiges of femininity, gracefulness, softness, and girly ways - which I enjoy. I don't need or want my paper to towels to remind me every morning, "Hey you husky, ox. Put on a flannel shirt you genderless, muscle-bound giant and get your ax and head for the mountains!"

I always use Viva paper towels, which are extra soft but strong, and come with pastel designs. That's how this woman rolls, Brawny.  rofl

I am not going to give up using VIVA, Alyssa Milano notwithstanding.

These people are everywhere. You can't ban everything, or at least I can't. ::isurrender::

To me this is just another message that mixes men and women into the same homogenous hodgepodge where there are no real differences between the two. This message is consistently being promoted by the media and Hollywood and others in the left.

I believe that just ignores the true beauty found in the differences between men and women, and why man and women complement each other in life.

I agree, fellow Viva user!

A little off on the spelling, but still...

Tonka and Rella-
I fry bacon in a cast iron skillet. Probably a southern thing.

Why would it be a southern thing?

Viva is too expensive.  Only reason I have a Sam's Club membership is TP and paper towels.  Viva is about twice the price of member's mark per square ft.

Sometimes I fry bacon in a skillet, but most of the time bake it in the oven on a wire rack.

Probably a southern thing.

I'm down here in the deep south, Mississippi.

Unrepentant Confederate.
We were fighting against red radicals to preserve the honor & virtue of Southern Womanhood.

Best bacon ever!

Good stuff.

Not a southern thing at all.

My grandmother did also...  and we have 2 cast iron dutch ovens  ::yummy::

But I just prefer the ease of microwave and paper towels... Clean up is a breeze.

No problem.

mommydi is from OK and I am from PA... north of the Mason Dixon line....

My great great grandfather was in the Civil War for the "north".

He had been captured, and actually was a prisoner on a train to Andersonville when he and a few others managed to escape one night.  They all went different directions and he headed toward Washington.

If he had not escaped I would not be here .

Wonder if my grandfather fought any of your relatives?

My dad used to slice a couole of vine ripened tomatoes, salted and heavily peppered and then pour warmed up left over bacon grease over them! Probably why he had clogged arteries. It WAS really good. I’ve done it a couple of times with blue cheese sprinkles also! Whoa! I better stop right there.

If he tried to take north Mississippi he did. My mean ole great-great grandfather & his comrades sent them packing back to Memphis. They stayed put too, till they floated down the River past them to siege Vicksburg.

I'm in Oklahoma - born and raised here and have a thick Okie accent to prove it. Rella's heard it and I'm just glad she could understand me.  ::noworries::
Part of my family was from Kentucky, and part from southern Georgia. All of them stopped in TX on the way to OK. My grandmother who had the Georgia roots taught me a lot about cooking southern dishes.

Mississippi is a gorgeous state. I'm watching a series on Hulu right now called Home Town. A sweet couple in Laurel, Mississippi do the fixer upper thing on local homes.

Well God Bless your grandmother. If it wasn't for southern cookin' a real man would starve to death. Your husband has to be a lucky fellow.

I take it that explains the award winning cornbread?

If he tried to take north Mississippi he did. My mean ole great-great grandfather & his comrades sent them packing back to Memphis. They stayed put too, till they floated down the River past them to siege Vicksburg.

I wish I knew....

I have such a truly weird family in the past... shut up TC rofl....

My great great grandfather seems to have disappeared in history.

As great as it was that he escaped from that train and made it to Washington.... where congress had him write about his experiences and they were published in a little booklet....

Of which two copies were in the family. My cousin... who will not talk to me..... I am too Christian , and too Republican for conversation.... and myself .
My copy I took time to make a copy on my printer before I carefully repackaged it in plastic , with cedar blocks, and had it in the living room for a couple of years.

That has disappeared. The original. I have no proof but I firmly believe that a previous cleaning girl, who was severely strapped for money, who always looked at things and commented about their value... and even commented about what other people had... took it.

Mom does not think so but I do.

Anyway I digress...

Other then his experiences that were in that booklet, where he explained how the "slaves" along the way helped him by hiding him sometimes and feeding him sometimes... and mentioning how he could know it was the slaves walking the railroad because he would hear a click clack sound from a distance away and knew it would not be the confederates looking for him....

That click clack sound was because the slave would take short boards of wood and atrap them onto their feet, like sandals, so they did not need to go barefoot....

But beyond these experiences I never heard or read or could find anything.

My great grandmother, who lived with us until she died when I was but a girl never talked about her dad... so my birth mom never did either.

Sad.........

Well, I can assure you that everyone, EVERYONE, south of the Mason Dixon line just does not accept us northerners.

Except those in FL.

I always wanted to move south. I have friends and distant relatives all over South Carolina and have basically been told unless you move to the unaffordable
coastal areas you need to live there 15 or 20 years before being accepted. Heck, I wont last andother 15 or 20.

I had a friend in Mississippi   ( love typing that name  ::shrug::) who wanted mom and I to move down there with him... trouble was... I could not understand a word coming out of his mouth... that is the truth  rofl rofl rofl

But I, personally, would move to Texas in a heart beat except all my trips there I was kept at an arms length....

I think my next trip through the south I will get some tee shirts made that say

My VA ancestors had a plantation.....  That is true. Have not yet tracks if they had slaves, but have documentation they had indentured servants.....

Anyway..........

I am the true outsider amongst you all.....

BTW... mommydi

YOU have an accent? Not to my ears you don't.

I honestly don't get how Texans love Texas.  Montana is so much nicer.
