If Trump backs off the threats to China, I think Alibaba could be of great benefit. But they are not an employer, they are a trade facilitator. Their benefit on job creation would be indirect, but very possible. But......................................... . not with a trade war against China.

I understand and can even somewhat appreciate Trump's efforts in meeting with business leaders, but business leaders don't set policy, they just adapt to it. The policy setters are the government leaders. If he can avoid alienating all of them, there is some hope for job improvement here at home. Time will tell. Diplomacy is not telling people they are fired.

Had this itch I couldn't quite scratch the past couple of days regarding Alibaba. Finally dawned on me. Alibaba is big on stealing copyrights. They fuel the counterfeit industry in China. Chinese counterfeiting costs America millions of jobs.

http://www.innovationfiles.org/global-ip-infringements-significant-cost-to-the-u-s-economy/

Such state-sanctioned IP theft inflicts serious damage on the U.S. economy. The U.S. International Trade Commission estimated that Chinese theft of U.S. IP in 2009 alone cost almost one million U.S. jobs and caused $48 billion in U.S. economic losses. And In 2013, the Commission on the Theft of American Intellectual Property found “the scale of international theft of American IP to be unprecedented,” causing at least $320 billion in annual economic losses to the U.S. and job losses “running into the millions.”

This should provide laughs for hours.

Perhaps millions of jobs lost is an exaggeration but not something to laugh about.  I personally know of high-end musical and pro audio gear being replicated in China and available for purchase from China directly.   Held side by side against their American counterparts it's hard to tell the difference.  Product logos look the same even magnified. What bothers me the most about this is the re-sale market.   People re-sell these items as the real thing.   Shure Brothers, Inc. has spent lots of money trying to keep copies of their microphones out of the USA and European markets.   Sennheiser of Germany is having their microphones duplicated in China too.   There are videos on YouTube which are tutorials on how to spot the fakes.    I've read reviews of Shure microphones by people who bought them from Amazon.Com independent vendors.   They get them and they don't perform properly and then the owners send them to Shure in Chicago for repair.  Shure rejects them and tell the people that these are knockoffs.   These are a few things I know about.   Others could probably tell about the same sorts of things with many other product categories.  It's a real problem.

Naw, not a real problem, just a yuk-yuk. Never mind the evidence presented, we should all just laugh ourselves silly.  rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl

The laughter was directed at the "millions of jobs", I certainly do not condone counterfeiting or illegal file sharing practices, but I highly doubt millions of jobs would be returned if somehow the illegal practices were to cease.

Exaggeration can be very humorous at times  ::giggle::

Doubt away. Not my numbers. I'll leave that to those reporting.

"They" being Alibaba? Alibaba doesn't produce anything. They are a platform for international sales.
