"America's largest business group the United States Chamber of Commerce is spending $25 million on something that in years past would have been considered completely unnecessary. The US Chamber of Commerce is launching an advertising campaign to extol the virtues of free market enterprise. The US Chamber of Commerce feels the need to spend $25 million to tell the American people what capitalism is. Explaining the goals of the campaign, the chamber president, Thomas Donohue, said, "America needs 20 million new jobs to reemploy the unemployed and keep pace with our population growth. The government can support a few jobs in the short run, but over the long run, only the private sector, powered by free enterprise, can keep America working."

Donohue told reporters that the campaign was not intended to be partisan but "to build a compelling case for free enterprise."

Yet the effort appears to challenge some of President Barack Obama's job-creation rhetoric and initiatives. Job creation is expected to be a major issue in next year's midterm congressional elections.

"There are plans afoot to weigh down America's once vibrant capital markets with excessive regulations, and to raise taxes on our most productive citizens," Donohue said.

The Chamber's campaign, expected to cost about $25 million, includes a new Web site and television ads that began running on cable networks on Wednesday. It will also feature town-hall style meetings on college campuses and what the organization calls "national engagement, community outreach and educational efforts."

My comments:

In addition to it being a shame that we have to educate a culture that is so dependent on the government instead of going out and trying to provide for themselves, did you notice that the free market is now considered partisan?! Journalists were skeptical when Donohue said this isn't a partisan campaign. "After all," reported the AP, "the chamber's campaign appears to challenge some of President Barack Obama's job-creation rhetoric and initiatives." Well, isn't that interesting? And scary!

 Doh!

"To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it."  - Thomas Jefferson

Interesting AP spin there, calling opposition to the hyper-partisan Obama partisanship.  Could you imagine the same writer writing a review of the movie "Deliverance"?  He'd ignore the love scene and just say it was about Burt Reynolds portrayal as a "homophobe" who probably even went so far as to not vote for Obama.

They turned me loose from the nervous hospital.  Said I was well.  Mmm hmm.

Suffering for your beliefs is called faithfulness, making others suffer for your beliefs is called being a jerk.

His cross, like the ark in the wilderness, is the center around which his people are to encamp; so that they cannot separate into factions, or withdraw from each other, without retiring at the same time from the presence of the cross.

Yes Nick, I agree. The movie "Deliverance" is a cornucopia of societal lessons! That's why very few babies born in the 70's are named Ned!
