At age 6 I had a mandatory small pox vaccine before I could be enrolled in the Denver school
system.  No one thought anything of it .  It was just accepted as standard procedure.

Maybe Walker, but, these are crazy days, and there is much mercury in the shot, not good for little kids, or big kids.

Public schools still require vaccinations. And perhaps they should.

We still have the freedom not to make use of them ("them" being the public schools).  And that's what is important.  If we lose the freedom not to enroll, if we lose the freedom to teach what we feel is important, if we lose the freedom to choose/reject certain vaccines, we will have lost our freedom.

edited to add:

I should have been more clear.  I do not think that an unproven, untested (to satisfaction) vaccine for flu should be mandatory.  Had it been thoroughly tested and proven to be safe, it would be different.  Even now they are still coming out with updates on safety, meaning there are not a lot of serious immediate reactions.  Long-term, they have no idea.

In public schools there are religious exceptions to vaccines. Did you see that one poor kid with the skin aliment, they want to make take the shot? Well my kid that does attend school, does not attend public. My parents are good Christians and retired school teachers, but, PS, just keep getting meaner and meaner. Though I know there are good Christian teachers, there are some real whack jobs too.

BTW, what a hypocrite Dr. OZ is, telling everyone it is safe, except for his four kids. OK

I have a general question about this. Not THIS vaccine but generally

It seems there is a strain of Christians who oppose vaccinations. I have a sis in law this way. She homeschooled (so did we), and she wouldnt vaccinate, she opposed OB Gyn, and did 7 kids w/ midwives, even risking hers and kids life for the last couple kids....and she got deeply into a barter system w/ bread baked traded for eggs and such and lots of things that I would, with a fast look, say she was a raging liberal. But there is a big group of Christians who feel this way.

Why?

Well, I have vaccinated my kids, actually. The religious thing is done by Amish, I believe,  I just have a problem myself, that this vaccine is dangerous, and told I will be put in jail in states if I did not do it. I guess the religious thing is something, I am not well read on. I see this, as I do not trust our government anymore, and they have given me good reason to feel that way. Dr. Oz, telling everyone to it, then saying not for his kids. Your sister, had natural birth,? She maybe a liberal (LOL).  am really need to read about religious exceptions, before I comment more.
