This is my first time here. I just want to briefly explain my situation. 12 years ago I became the subject of awful rumours at my high school. People were saying things behind my back, it led to staring and isolation. No matter where I go people connect the dots and know about my alleged reputation. Now they think I am scum and people have told me what was said and is being said. There is no place i can go to to escape these rumours. I told my parents and they think I'm crazy. I have been seeking counseling but no one believes me. Sometimes I feel as if I would give up and sometimes I wonder why God allows suffering like a sick game. Why would such an alleged loving God allow bad things to happen to good people like me. Why are people in Africa dying and in the middle east. Why are people being raped and killed? I don't understand. I still cling to hope but things are so bad I just don't know.

For God to wave His magic wand in this fallen world and make everyone behave the way they should -- He'd have to micromanage us as if we were puppets.  What good is good behavior if it's not real good behavior, but God behaving?  It's no good to God -- we could be good, good, good all day long, and tell God we love Him -- but if it was Him making it happen it would be as if He were manipulating a puppet and making it say "I Love You".

So, unfortunately, His great love for us which allows us to freely choose Him also allows us to choose to be rotten, stupid people.

Here are some things I would do, if I were you, looking back on my own youth... In other words, if only I had known back then what I know now!...

I would make sure to be involved in a volunteer work that would do others some good and teach me some skills.  If some idiot wants to speculate about me and gossip about me, let him.  Meanwhile, I will be over across the room or across town doing something worthwhile, helping people, getting some skills, getting good things on my resume for college and for future jobs.

The world around you is full of hurting people in a lot worse shape than you.  If you look for ways to make their lives better, it will automatically strengthen you and your will and your pride and your posture toward those gossipy cowards.  You will find that their fund of gossip bothers you a lot less and even starts to shrivel away once they see they can't hurt you with it.

That's just one thing that came to mind; I will have to step away from the computer and have a bit of Real Life this evening.

I was an out-of-step kid -- early school years I was separated off with the other bright kids in a special program.  Then in Junior High and High School I was so out-of-step with the other more "normal" kids, I was a good gossip topic -- but it turned out well.

Dear christorjr, you use the term "an alleged loving God" making me wonder if you are a Christian. Have you given your life to God and allowed Him to change it? Do those being killed in the world put themselves under God's protection? Should God just automatically zap everyone that does bad? If so, you and I would certainly be gone by now. God has given the Holy Spirit to reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: do they listen, or will they go into judgment?

God loves so much, He gave His Son Jesus to die for us while we were yet sinners. Should He have just killed us all to begin with? God this day is still pleading with you and me to have His best; go for it. Suffering persists for the righteous and the unrighteous, but payday someday; which side do you wish to be on when judgment comes?

Submitting yourself this day to God will bring peace to you as you grow in grace and knowledge of Him, and realize His purpose for you in His will. You will then discover that God's love is not alleged, but the real thing. May God show you His blessings to you as you surrender yourself to Him in Jesus' name - larry2

I've been through many trials in the past and I find comfort in clinging to God to help me through.  We live in a world where people have a free will so good and evil exist and sometimes bad things happen to good people, but I believe that God helps those who cry out to Him..

Heavenly Father, may You reveal Yourself to this one, that he too may be lifted and helped when he cries out to You, In Jesus Name, Amen
