Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven.
Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virigin, assist me in my necessity
Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother.
Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth,
I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity

(Mention your request here)

There are none that can withstand your power.
Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times)
Holy Mary, I place this prayer in your hands (3 times)
Amen.

This prayer is never known to fail and is to be said for 3 consecutive days.
Publication on granting of the favour must be promised and done.

Yikes!

I would rather just go ahead and pray to God the Father, through Jesus His Son.

Catholics do not directly pray to saint (this thread name is confusing) they ask the saint to pray for them as all people do in the "Prayer request" forum. As a Catholic, I always start my prayer with "Father.." as Jesus said it was supposed to be done. Some take the saints as "intercessors" before God so the prayer would have more chances to be hear but I believe that's naive because who is more near God than his own son?

Jesus told us how to pray, to the Father through the Son. Praying to/through others is pointless, they are dead.

It's been my thoughts that when the curtain was rent, we had access to God straight away through the work of Jesus. Many times I don't know what to pray for, and end up praying that God will make His presence known and impress upon whomever, what they may need to have the joy and peace and contentment and rest that He promises His children. I guess that is the best thing we can pray for anyone when it comes right down to it. We always pray through Jesus.

It was more than the name...reading through that prayer, it was pretty clear that poster was advocating for an praying TO Mary. ::shrug::

Thank you for sharing your own conviction on the matter.  You are very wise to realize that its best to pray to God through Jesus His Son.  God bless you.

I think that this speculation about what the "curtain being rent" means is not correct.  For example, before the curtain was rent, why did Jesus advocate for praying "Our Father"?

If the curtain being rent means that now we can now do something that we "couldn't do before"  (the thing that this saying suggests we couldn't do before being, by implication, "pray straight to the Father through Jesus") then Jesus wouldn't have advocated praying to the Father before the curtain was rent.

Well said, the portion you highlight is wrong to promote.  Unfortunately unscrupulous individuals add such "guarantees" onto prayers, and they should not.  The word you may be searching for is "superstition" and a violation of the first commandment:

Catechism of the Catholic Church
Quote
Superstition

2111 Superstition is the deviation of religious feeling and of the practices this feeling imposes. It can even affect the worship we offer the true God, e.g., when one attributes an importance in some way magical to certain practices otherwise lawful or necessary. To attribute the efficacy of prayers or of sacramental signs to their mere external performance, apart from the interior dispositions that they demand, is to fall into superstition.41

41 Cf. Mt 23:16-22.

cdg41592, it is okay to pray this prayer, but pray for God's will to be done, and don't expect that by doing it or publishing it that you will necessarily get what you are asking.  If you pray for God's will in the matter, then your heart will be open to receiving whatever deems is best for you, and being a loving Father, that will be what is best indeed.

I can see what you mean from a non-Catholic understanding.  From a Catholic understanding, it is always understood that Mary intercedes for us, that is, we ask her to help us through her prayers.  You can see this in the above from the following line:

Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times)

And asking others in the body of Christ to help us with our spiritual needs is very biblical.  That is the whole point in praying for someone.  And the fact that people who are in heaven both receive our prayers and offer them to Jesus is found in Rev. 5:8.

I would ask my roommate to pray for me, I wouldn't be like "O blessed roommate, child of the Most High and grace-filled, pray thee for me..."  etc. It's too much like treating her as divine.

What if you knew your doctor was a faithful person.  Would you say "Doctor, would you pray for me?"  Why, or why not?

I wouldn't call him Doctor, but otherwise if I felt I needed it yes I would.

 Hi Catholica,
I responded to this, but put it in the theology forum, under Catholica.
