The ruling king (unnamed as of yet) hates the Gifted, and so doesn't allow any into his army of knights. Kiki, however is an exception to this rule. She already had control over her Gift when she became a squire in the king's court.

(For the Mutants) Power: Able to shape change into any animal. While in animal form she can understand the speech of the animal kingdom, including humans. She cannot understand animals when she is human. She cannot vocally communicate to humans when she is an animal.
Age: 41
Appearance: Blond hair that rests 2 inches below shoulders, she has blue eyes, She usually wears loose clothes, but always carries a dagger and a short sword, her long sword carried by her horse.
Personality: Kiki is a strong woman who grew to be sure of herself in who she is. She's stubborn, blunt to friends, caring towards others, patient, independent, and respects hard work.
Backstory: Kiki grew up on a farm, bordered by a forest. Her parents loved her, but couldn't help their daughter as much as they'd have liked. While learning control of her Gift, Kiki would lose herself and be missing for sometimes weeks, fully a part of whatever animal she had lost herself to. Those would be the better outcome. She would also black out and kill something. One particular incident sticks out in her mind because she'd woken up in her bed with wounds all over - the most serious being a cut in her side. Her father, she found out a little later that her father was seriously injured because of her attack. She eventually caught on, though, and when she was old enough she went to become a squire, where she had to constantly hide her Gift - even after her Trial of Knighthood. Kiki grew restless after her retirement and traveled as much as she could. She used her Gift to spy on the state of the kingdom, growing ever concerned. The Cursed used fear - they openly used their powers - to control people. To recruit the twisted power-seekers that somehow thought it could be learned. And their influence was growing in the bigger settlements. She was traveling when she met Chastity, and a boy from the future, Nicholas (who wanted nothing to do with Chastity's quest). Kiki felt a pull to guide young Chastity to help her control her powers over fire.
