Well, Amo, is your name Hobie, cannot he answer for himself, or does he need daddy to do so for him?
These boards are open to all to respond, as so very many do. Regardless of your sarcasm, I am not his daddy or anyone else's. Nor do I speak on their behalf but my own. Hobie starts a lot of threads, without much follow up responses. I will of course step in and reply to his or anyone else's posts I wish, regardless of sarcasm from you or others.
Nevertheless, I'll just give two references: You like Moses' teaching overly much, so here:
What do you mean I like Moses' teaching overly much? What do you think of Moses' teaching? Where do you think he got his teaching from, and who do you think it was for? Are you saying you do not care for Moses' teaching? Perhaps you would have done better? Moses was a chosen instrument of God given privileges and responsibilities by Him far above and beyond You or I and the vast majority of all humanity. If you ever have the privilege of meeting him, it will only be because you have become far humbler than you now are, and are willing to show him far more respect than you do now.
Moses received his teaching directly from God, as in His literal presence. He was a type of Christ in the deliverance of God's people from slavery to the Egyptians, and from the slavery of sin in and through the blood of the Lamb of God. The Law, the Sanctuary, and the Sacrificial system were all given to him by God for His people in pointing to Jesus Christ and Him crucified for the salvation of humanity. You and I, and no doubt most on these boards are spiritual dwarfs compared to the man Moses'. If you disrespect Moses' and his teachings, you disrespect God and His teachings.
Deuteronomy 14:28~"And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,
Now I'm sure you are ready to forsake Moses' teaching on alcohol, yet keep others of his teachings to Israel, that were ONLY imposed on them until the time of reformation of the NT so that we could SEE CLEARLY their intent as to WHY God gave to them certain dietary laws, etc. Acts 10 reveals some of their purposes (dietary law, etc) for Israel ONLY, until the coming of the religion of Jesus Christ that far excelled the religion of the Jews.
Deuteronomy 14:28 is very clear as the LIBERTY Israel had so that they could to use their money to buy WHATSOEVER their soul lusteth after and to enjoy before the Lord IN MODERATION of course. That's your answer for drinking alcohol~now, concerning NT saints having the liberty to enjoy meat lover's pizza from Papa John:
The verse you quoted above as 28 is actually verse 26. If you want to use Deut 14 to justify drinking, then I suppose you should do the rest of what it says as well, shouldn't you? I will quote and highlight that which you apparently think should be done by all today from Deut 14.1 Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead. 2 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. 3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing. 4 These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, 5 The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois. 6 And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat. 7 Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you. 8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase. 9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat: 10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you. 11 Of all clean birds ye shall eat. 12 But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, 13 And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind, 14 And every raven after his kind, 15 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind, 16 The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan, 17 And the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant, 18 And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. 19 And every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten. 20 But of all clean fowls ye may eat. 21 Ye shall not eat of any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk. 22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year. 23 And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always. 24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee: 25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: 26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, 27 And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee. 28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates: 29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
I guess if you are going to do all that the chapter says to do, and all it says not to do, you should certainly drink wine and strong drink as well. We both know you do not believe in doing these things though, your'e just justifying drinking alcohol. You will use the OT to justify this, while you disregard the rest, and one of God's commandments as well. This is not to say I believe all should still be keeping all of the above laws pertaining to the literal nation of Israel, the NT does not teach us this. Though it does specifically uphold the standard of the Ten Commandments of God, and it still does make good sense to keep some of the others as well. God has not miraculously made foods that were unhealthy to eat in the old covenant, healthy in the new. As far as alcohol goes, I have already stated the reasons why a good bible believer should not get drunk.
1st Timothy 4:3-5~"Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer."
Amo, you are much closer to RCC/EOC than you really want to admit, yet for those who know the truth, you are RIGHT THERE with them on more doctrines than you will admit! I'll live by God's word which clearly said:
Quote from: THE WORD OF GOD
"For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving"
The ONLY thing that is forbidden is BLOOD of those creatures for the life of the flesh is IN THE BLOOD, and that's clearly forbidden by the holy apostles of Jesus Christ. (Acts 15:20,29, etc.)
So, are you saying you only eat Kosher, or that which has been bled? 1 Tim 4:1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
God did not create any animals to be eaten. His original diet for humanity did not include flesh foods at all. Nor has He ever commanded or demanded meat eating, but rather allowed for it. Nor can deciding not to eat meats which God Himself proclaimed unclean, and instructed His own chosen people not to eat, ever become a doctrine of devils. Paul is obviously not addressing the dietary laws of Israel in the above Scriptures.
The point above is not that nothing should be refused, but that nothing should be refused if it is received with thanksgiving toward God. The food is sanctified by the word of God and prayer, not of itself according to some new teaching or change in animals. Israels dietary laws and clean or unclean meats is not addressed in the chapter quoted at all. To the contrary, the scriptures being addressed specifically speak of meats which God Himself allowed to be eaten with thanksgiving. No, its not talking about turkey, but quite obviously clean meats which God has allowed for eating. The institution Paul is speaking of forbids marriage and commands obtaining from meats which even God has given permission to eat with thanksgiving. This is an obvious reference to Roman Catholicism. https://heavy.com/social/2019/03/no-meat-fridays-lent-catholics/Why Don’t Catholics Eat Meat on Fridays During Lent?https://www.quora.com/Why-were-Catholics-not-allowed-to-eat-meat-on-Fridays-and-why-did-this-change
Why were Catholics not allowed to eat meat on Fridays, and why did this change?
For centuries, Christians have abstained from meat on Fridays, as a form of penance to remember Our Blessed Lord’s Crucifixion in which He obtained for us our salvation. In the Scriptures, we are exhorted to “pick up your cross and follow Me” - all of us make follow Our Blessed Lord on His way to Calvary.
That “way” will be different for each of us, but abstaining from meat, especially in societies who eat meat practically at every meal is a good way to do this.
My mother came from a Methodist family. I remember back in the 1950’s even the Protestants refused to eat meat on Good Friday.
In 1966 Pope Paul VI issued the Apostolic Constitution PAENITEMINI which revised the rules on Fast and Abstinence. In that document, he allows individual Bishop’s conferences to change the Friday Abstinence rule outside of Lent. In the United States, the Bishops issued a document saying that Friday remains a day of penance and that outside of Lent, people could choose some other penance that was more meaningful to them, if they so choose; but that all Fridays remain days of Penance.
Somehow, by the time this got down to the parish, it sounded like “we no longer have to abstain from meat outside of Lent”. This was a complete disaster, and some Bishop’s conferences are going back to mandatory meat abstienence on all Fridays of the year because people are not observed Fridays as they should.
And this is very important - THIS was the day of the week on which Christ won for us our salvation, and repaired the fault we could not.
There were already Christians abstaining from meat during Paul’s day, he was obviously not simply addressing people abstaining from meats. He was addressing a specific institution which would wrongly forbid marriage for some, and the eating of even clean meats which God allowed for with thanksgiving.
Please do tell what SDA’s and RC’s have in common.
