Read the article named "Alabama, Florida, and saving the soul of the SEC"

By Matt Hinton

That is a good article. The only problem I have with it is the way he words the part about the out of conference wins. When Alabama played Clemson, they were ranked (rightly or wrongly) at number 9. Alabama wasn't even ranked in 1 poll. Number 24 in the other.

Hindsight is the best vision of them all Gary. It is real easy to sit back after it has happened and say, what if. Well, from a guy who has played the game, it isn't that easy. Alabama prepared for the number 9 team in the country. The team that was picked to win the ACC and be a national contender by these same idiots writing about how bad people are today. That is why there should be no polls before the 3rd or 4th week of the season. They mean nothing.

They need to win on the field. Period. No whining if you lose. Just put the best effort forth. If it isn't good enough, well, get better or accept it the way it is. The Big 10's reputation has been earned. Because the "elite" teams of the Big 10 have blown it when they got the chance to show it. That is not my biased opinion. That is a fact. I actually like Michigan, OSU, Penn St., etc...what true football fan wouldn't. There have been some great football games over the years between SEC teams and Big 10 teams. When the Big 10 starts winning the ones they are hyped up about, the reputation they have gained will slowly fade away. Until then, it is like the boy crying wolf all the time. People get tired of running helter skelter to help a child only to find out he isn't for real. We all know the problem though, when he IS for real, everyone has labeled him a fraud and he gets eaten. Old cliche, but perfect for this case. Look, Alabama is trying to regain it's respect as well. That will only happen when we earn it.

Well, you can add #3 to the list next New Year, when Penn State racks up the next NT.

I am sorry Ewigkeit. Penn State will not win a National Title this year. Unless they get to play one of the weaker Big 12 schools. A good defense will stop Penn State in their tracks. That is not a biased opinion of any sort. Just an observation from an old lineman and an avid football fan/watcher.

It is a biased opinion from a SEC fan.

No Gary, it isn't. Why do you think they got jumped by a Texas Tech team? The people who make these decisions do not believe they are as good as advertised. Period.

Roy Kramer:  Man behind creation of BCS pleased with results

The SEC Commissioner was the driving force behind the BCS.

You are 100% correct. However, the conference now wants a play off. They have seen the "unfairness" of the BCS. Even though Kramer was the motive force behind the BCS, he is long gone. AND the SEC has approached the other conferences 3 times about a play off. The Big 10 and Pac 10 are adamantly against it.

You can keep your subjective opinions, and I will give you the unbiased truth.  The Big Ten is best!

You can disagree with the truth, but you are wrong in doing so.

Today the Big Ten has lived up to its well-deserved reputation as the nation's cannibal conference as #3 Penn State has fallen by one point to Iowa, and door-mat Michigan has reared it's bloodied head to knock off Minnesota in convincing fashipn.

Wyoming beats Tennessee.  That shows how strong the SEC is.

Illinois getting beat shows how weak the SEC is.  Ron Zook did a good job at Florida, and he can't get ahead in the superior Big Ten.

Me thinks there's a bit too much cattiness in this discussion, so let's put some real facts on the table.  First off, there's no super conference anywhere in this country today, mainly due to parity.  Second, the Big Ten is no weaker or stronger than the SEC or any other conference you might choose to name.  Finally, so far as I'm concerned it doesn't make a hill-of-beans' difference whether the Big Ten has a national champion or not, since the BCS is a fraud from the git-go, and everybody knows it.  kThere will never be a true national champion in Division 1A untill, like Divisions 2 and 3, they back off the greed and arrogance of the BCS and adopt a playoff format.
