he has done a very good job in just 2 years.  i just hope he sticks around unlike what he did for Michigan St., LSU, and Miami.   if he stays bama should be a contender for the national championship every year, or at least in the top 10.

If Leech didn't loose that game to OU, he would have won it hands down!

Actually he has taken less talent further than most other coaches in major programs. Which should be the criteria of the selection of coach of the year. To get where he's gotten in the shadow of OU, UT, and A&M's perenniel recruiting prowess is amazing.

How far one goes with the talent he's got should be the criteria irregardless of ifs and buts, or candy and nuts. In the past Texas Tech Alumni were happy with 7 and 4 seasons, and would even give their coaches a contract extension for such lofty attainment, especially if either UT or A&M was defeated. For most  programs where success is expected, a coach would be on probation with a 7 and 4 season. Two in a row would get you fired. Leach has consistently taken third tier talent, for the most part and competed with first tier programs quite successfully.

Don Meridith was one of the first QB's the Dallas Cowboys ever had and he was a sports announcer for Monday Night Football in the 70's and 80's with Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell. Yeah, he was a character.

Gosh, I wish they would have beaten OU this year. If that game was only played in Lubbock, I think the outcome would have been totally different. Why is it that Tech plays a whole lot better at home?

So, do you think Leech is going to leave Tech? I hear that Auburn and Washington want him really badly.

The paper said today that he turned down the Washington job and got a huge raise offered from Tech. I don't know about the Auburn job. Someone said at the office, he would be making more than Stoops! I will have to verify that though.

Your IMO is wrong.  It is Paterno.  Best. Coach.  Ever.

Coach of the year implies that average talent was taken to extraordinary heights. Such is the case with Mike Leach of Texas Tech not Nick Saban of Alabama.

Picking Nick Saban as coach of the year makes about as much sense as selecting Mack Brown of Texas. They both have way more than their fair share of talent. At both schools, a one loss season gets you accolades, and 3 losses gets ya fired. And rightfully so, with the overwhelming talent both have.

Picking Saban or Brown would be like picking Donald Trump for the "Boot Strap Award" for small business.

Their "fair share"? We're not going socialist in college football now too are we? A coach is above-average in his recruiting success and it's not fair? I'll never understand why modern society thinks that success is not fair. I work hard and achieve things and that's somehow not fair. Nick Saban is known for going above the call of duty in recruiting and in working hard to win and somehow that's not fair to those who don't work as hard. So backwards.

We could play the "not fair" game all day. He's tall, she's short. He's good lucking, that guy is ugly. He's fast, he's slow. Is that fair?
