Isaiah 6:1   What are the various interpretations of Isaiah seeing God ?

Don
Isaiah must have had a vision or dream, or perhaps was taken up in the spirit.

Exo_33:20  And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Something to start on anyway.

Hi Don, I don't know if I can give you anything new on this, but here are some thoughts on it.

John 1:18  No man hath seen God at any time  . . John 4:24  God is a Spirit; can He be seen?

Isaiah 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
Isaiah 6:5  Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

We see this same LORD Who is Jesus in introduced by John the Baptist. Isaiah 40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

1 kings 22:19  19  And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. This was a prophesy of Micaiah probably in vision.

John12:41  These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him. This was a prophesy of Esaias.

Rev 4:2  And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. Now this was Jesus on this throne, and of course He could be seen, but then isn't Jesus the image of the invisible God according to Colossians 1:15?

I would then have to ask if Moses was allowed to see the back parts of God; was that Jesus before He became man? We read in Exodus 33:23  And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen. At this Moses' face shown so that he had to wear a veil.

My thoughts.

Don, I had to move your thread "Isaiah 6:1" from the Discussion forum to this Theology forum. I also merged the two of them. Thanks.

Isaiah 6:1   What are the various interpretations of Isaiah seeing God ?Don

Inthenow, post the right scripture, (Exo.33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live). Jesus also said this ,(John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him). Many believe Jesus was the Almighty Jehovah God, his Father. He wasn’t, many imperfect humans HAS…seen Jesus.

Even with Jehovah’s HS, seeing into Heaven. Man never said he seen God’s Face ,(Acts 7:55,56- But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God).

John who wrote the book of Revelation, didn’t claim to see God’s face, but he did see him ,(5:1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals). Isa.6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Obviously with Jehovah’s power/HS, Isaiah was blessed with a vision into Heaven. Though not seeing with literal eyesight, sense we can’t see anything in the spirit realm. He was called by Jehovah God to be his Prophet, teaching  about Jehovah’s power.

Trinitarian evidence.

God the Word is seen.

John 1:1 John 1:14  1 John 1:1-3

God the Father is unseen...

John 6:46 (KJV)
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

Why do you wnat interpretations  and or opinions?

What does the scripture say?

"Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God"

"I have heard of thee but now mine eyes seeth thee...I repent  in dust and ashes" JOB.

Many it is recorded in scripture  who  had HEARD of God. (many today have HEARD of revivals too.)

On what JOB had HEARD  of God it had so transformed hsi life that God could boast of him in heaven and use him  as an example.
He had such integrity  that  he could withstand and rightly so all the accusations of his 'freinds'  Yet when God began to reveal himself to Job.Job had nowhere to go. He repeneted in dust and ashes and only God then could raise him up.
 A new man.

Moses had heard of God .He even had the understandign that by him God was goign to deliver isreal.Yet  he too came to a place where he was confronted by God and was terrified. and bowed so low that only God could raise him.

Gideon  had also heard a lot about God and in his hiding place thought thoughts of God who he had heard of that in the past had done so great things.
It is written that when we draw near to God ,God draws near to us. So as his right thoughts drew him near to God .God then began to talk to him and as a diologue was establshed and the relationship  was settled things changed not onlky in his life  but in the life of the nation.

Jacob  had heard of God  yet was still a man of cunning and a usurper. But htere also came a time when he was brought face tio face with God  and hsi life changed.
It could be argued Abraham had heard of God  till a certain day.

Samuel even served in the temple for many years but did not know the word of the Lord.

The dicsiples  had heard much of the Father  yet in that upper room  when they asked "show us the Father" The earth shatterign reply that was given was  "have I been with you so long that you do now know me"?
yet still it needed the outpouring of the holy ghost to settle it I think.

Moreover  the church to day of whuich I am apart  has heard of God  and He who was from the beginning. Yte in very truth  do not realy know Him.
it has heard of great God given revivals that ahs shaken the church out of its stupor and almost death.
It has often tried to makw the dead bones live  by  some fleshly acts of worship  and call it revival yet we s till have not seen revival. Nor yet have we seen God .
Many fall down they say slain in the Spirit but in truth are no more changed  are what  they were before save they now have a 'repuation and a name'

Isiah was indeed a true prophet of God. and spoke the word of God.
Yet of a truth  when he saw the Lord high and lifted up ... Why should we think it is not what is written? The church has too low a veiw of God prhaps?
He had heard of God also. But when he saw the Lord in all His glory and hight and majesty  things were put in their true persepctive and right place.
"Woe is me  I am a man of unclean lips .......of  a nation ......."
It canot be said he had a foul mouth.  Yet in the light of what he saw of God  he was as an unclean thing  and all his rightousness werer as  filthy rags. and his lips had to be touched with the live coals  from that alter in heaven.
I dont know about you.But the lips are averty sensitive part of the body. to be touched ther with a live coal is not soemthing you will forget!
His tounge would never be the same and so it proved. For hwat he had to say from then on needed  lips more pure  than he had before then.

We have so called prophets and apostles today  parading around as if they was God  or at least God was their servant .soothsayers  and prophesying out of the imaginations of thier own heart  and not of me says the Lord.
Who clearly have never seen God! For if they had they woudl not dare to do and say what they do. paul on the other hand (surely the true pattern of an apostle?) says "knowign the terror of the Lord .........."
He too had heard of God  and had studied the original texts and knew the original language and had studied under the greatest theologians of his day Yet there came a day when he saw God. and wa snever the same again. and all his boasting  was as dung in comparson to the knowledge of Christ.

In Christ

Gerald
