If we are to regard the things of this world as so much trash (food, drink, money, etc.) then what is the God-approved way to enjoy our time on Earth? What is the correct way to acknowledge the good things that God has chosen to bestow?

I regard them all as gifts from God!  Everything I have is God's...my home, money, family, church.  So I thank God for them...and count them all as blessings.  It is the attitude of the one that has recieved the gifts, God's gifts to us.

If you trust the things of this world; rather then trust God...that is where you will run into problems.  God Bless you this day!

I have personally not given up clothing, food, or money. I do not allow them interfer with my love of God. I still enjoy God's creation, and knees not prohibiting me I would still do many things I did while younger. I am not in bondage, and have a freedom in Christ the world doesn't; in the world I was a slave to it.

The love of money more than putting Christ first is a problem for many, even to working themselves to death to store it up. The pursuit of anything that assorbs and controls our lives beyond reason can be wrong for us.

God has come to give me life, not death even though we have died with Him and have a new incorrupitible life with an uncorruptible seed that remains in us.

Amen, Larry, well said.  The things of this world will pass away, but the Lord never will.  God blesses us with the good things of the world, but we have to have a clean and grateful heart towards this.  If we live trying to please man instead of God, that's where we will run into problems.  We are in this world for God's purpose, not ours.  If we make God's will our purpose here, we can live happy fulfilled lives here on earth.  Just think how great it will be in heaven, with no sin and evil like there is here, and just giving praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  WOW!!  I can't Wait!!

Very excellent question, Triforce! (I HAD to check out somebody named "triforce")

When I think "in all that you do, give glory to God."

Every created thing I've ever seen is subject to some kind of corruption from sin (some people lazily think they're completely safe with Christian-made stuff. Nope.), BUT, you can also see beauty in some things that reflect their creator (Paul mentions this in Romans).

So in principle, focusing on a truly good thing and enjoying properly, is enjoying a glimpse of God--so it is good to give God the glory for that and say, "praise the Lord, this thing is wonderful/useful."

So not glorifying the thing itself, but just thanking God that you can see some of his invisible qualities (or expressions) through that thing. And those things come and go, and so does our comfort, but believing in its higher origin or creator is what we call faith.

Trying to own things is another subject, but the enjoyment of things is proper in that light (whatever is pure, perfect, lovely, etc . . .)

I think that it is all to be used for His glory, "for all things are created for you Glory, O Lord".  If we don't use it for His glory, either firsthand or second hand, then what are we using it for?

I guess I should clarify my terms here:
Firsthand meaning something like money or food, to give to the poor and witness of Christ in us to them, proclaiming Chrsit to them, or giving it directly to the "missionary".

Secondhand meaning like buying clothing or food or toilet paper for ourselves, so that we may not physically die, so that we can continue on to do His will in sharing Him with others.

No matter how I look at it, we "buy" people into the kingdom, for it takes money or possesions of some sort in order for us to funciton and share Christ.  All that we have is for that end: His Name.

Yes?  No?

Sure, yes.  I agree A thing's value for us is based on its usefulness toward the Kingdom in some way. I've always felt like saying, "I don't 'own' things, I just use them."

I also agree. We are just the tenants of Gods property.  Everything is the Lords and all glory to him.  I believe He enjoys watching his children enjoy his gifts to us.  We have the most wonderful Father and Son and Holy Spirit as our true purpose.  They are the all and all to us here on earth.  Thank you Jesus for all your amazing love towards us.

As for me, Triforce, the most enjoyment I can get on this earth is doing the right thing for myself and my fellow man/woman.  One can pick a profession  that allows one to earn a living (to obtain necessities such as food, shelter, etc) while letting God lead us to try and be of service to and ease the suffering of others; and to help obtain equality for all.  As long as it's done without ulterior motives or for selfish greedy gain, we are doing a service to our community and to God. If a person does not have the formal background and/or education to accomplish these things for money; there are plenty of volunteer opportunities to accomplish many good deeds.  My belief is that in doing so, many wonderful things will be bestowed upon you in a vast variety of ways.  I speak from sincere experience.

Thanks, Cally.

My screen-name comes from original Legend of Zelda for Nintendo NES where our hero Link searches for something called the Triforce. What a neat little reference to the Holy Trinity! I thought. Especially how Link must find each piece of the Triforce one by one ... Hope, Faith Love.  Smile Amen!

But I doubt if the LOZ developers intended for that to be a reference to Christianity. I see references to Christianity everywhere...  Look around   eek!   Praying hard

Right, the triforce of "power, courage, and wisdom."

That's definitely a good thing, the ability to see God from anyplace.  Smile

The bible shows us God has a slightly different idea of the things of the world

He says that which belongs to the world are

The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1 John 2:16

Personally I find that there has been very little focus or understanding of these foundational fundamental aspects of the world which in turn results in inadequate study or emphasis of them. Therefore many of us fall prey to their

Personally I believe this is the source of many of our shortcomings in we as believers conforming to the image of Christ
