”Global Warming”
vs.
The God of Creation

“I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.

“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
[Gen. 8:20-22].

Radical environmentalists once called our environmental “problem” “Global Warming.”  They now call it “Climate Change.” As you know, it has become a hot political issue in the 2020 Elections. Will they ever concede it is only a natural cycle? These natural cycles have come and gone for centuries. Google talks about one in 1859. “Summer and winter, cold and heat, shall not cease,” our God promised humanity following the global flood.

Other claims of “Global Warming” were made in the 1920s. Since the genesis of creation, natural cycles have appeared and disappeared. It is my view that radical environmentalists are resisting and striving to change an ordinary phenomenon. To me, their messages translate into propaganda. They have devised a dubious doctrine and trying to force it upon the world.

A few years ago, world leaders congregated to concoct a solution to so-called “Global Warming.” I caution everyone not to be hoodwinked by these leaders, most of whom are radical environmentalists. It is not unnatural for the world’s temperature to fluctuate every few decades. It has always done so.

I offer no objections to a clean environment. I promote a clean Earth and atmosphere. I object to the excuses these people are using to clean them up. These same people blame the size of the ozone’s hole on atmospheric pollution. This, too, is highly suspect. Again, it is my position that the ozone layer has always, since the genesis of God’s creation, vacillated—for reasons only our Creator knows.

Environmental extremists must contrive reasons for their radical agenda, so they blame pollution for the world’s temperature change and enlargement of the ozone’s hole. What will eventually be the result of environmentalists’ efforts? Radical decisions from world governments will be made and enforced upon you and me. Outrageous restrictions will be placed upon all of us. The final consequence will be the purging of many of our freedoms—freedoms we have come to cherish.

The dictatorial arm of many radical environmental proponents has dipped into the private lives of numerous law-abiding American citizens and purged their constitutional rights. I will gladly welcome the day when Congress places sensible restraints upon these dogmatic and arrogant environmental apologists.

I almost always dislike such words, because, while it is theologically true, it is almost always misunderstood and misapplied. It very often, perhaps most often, is not true in the sense that the author gives it.

4WD:

I used "charge" in the sense of "control." Our Lord has always been, and always will be, in control [charge] of everything.

"And we eagerly await a Savior from there [heaven], the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control..." [Phil. 3:20-21].

By the way, did you see anything in the column you allude to agreeable? Just wondering.

Yes, actually.  Most of it. That is the reason I commented specifically on the  word "control".  However I do think that man can certainly change a lot of things, including the climate.  I thing the vast deforestation that has gone on in the past and continues even today certainly does change things, including the climate.  In the present "climate change" rhetoric, I am not all that certain that what we see going on is all that clearly the result of increased CO2.  And more importantly I think that most of the proposals to solve the "problem" are absolutely ludicrous and are little more than a Leftist plot for significant wealth redistribution; and that not just in the US but throughout the world.  The Left is truly a disgusting bunch. They refuse to admit it but they are following in the footsteps of Russia, China, Cambodia, Cuba, Venezuela, and so many other Statist regimes in Asia, Africa and South America.

Hmmm....

Let's acknowledge the obvious - there are a bunch of shysters out there trying to exploit climate change for their own ends.  Al Gore immediately comes to mind.  The Obama administration as well, was firmly in the pocket of the environmental lobby.  There are plenty of people out there who stand to make a small fortune on the conscientiousness of consumers - those selling solar panels, and those who manufacture batteries for all the electric cars, hawkers of "carbon credits," etc.

This, however, doesn't mean that the idea of climate change is wrong.  Guilt-by-association is a logical fallacy.

As nearly as I can tell, the measurements of temperature around the world and in our oceans do in fact show that temperatures are rising.  Is that down to fossil fuels? Probably not... that's just one contributing factor, and not nearly the largest one.

But the question remains - is this part of an up-and-down cycle, such that we should expect it to self-correct in the future?  Or is this a more permanent change, such that we should be preparing to alter some of our fundamental assumptions about future weather?  I don't know the answer.

I do know some of the history of the earth, though.  There have been periods where the earth was tropical (think dinosaurs), and periods where much of earth was covered in ice.  If scientists are to believed, we have been living in an Inter-glacial period... a warmer spell that comes between Ice Ages.  But perhaps they're wrong, and this is a transition into a more tropical period for the earth.

That wouldn't be the end of the world.  But it would be a major shift.

I have no doubt that God is control.  I just wish I could figure out where He's got us headed to.

Jarrod:

Thank you, brother, for your insightful thoughts. All of them are interesting. My "bottom line" notion is that at least 90% of what we see in our climate today is a natural cycle—as I noted in my column.

Blessings,

Buff
