And the best to you as you will try to explain what BAPTISM means to them .

I did not know that you all ,are from the CHURCH OF CHRIST and when in high school , I did attend a CHURCH OF CHRIST .

I am an ACTS 9:6 DISPENSATIONALIST , and at one time ,I was a member of a DISPENSATIONAL web site and when they found out out I did not believe in WATER BAPTISM , they BANNED ME and now I see , why many are for WATER BAPTISM .

and why many here do not understand TENSES , VOICES , MOODS and CASES and I will consider to withdraw from this site , as I do not mind being challenged on any subject .

Which only means that Mark Twain didn't know and understand what faith is and neither do you.

Which is what you do in believing in a present burning hell, a doctrine which is against scriptures and truly is illogical to think God would take men OUT OF a present burning hell only to judge them and then cast them into the lake of fire which is the second death. The lake of fire is biblical, a present burning hell is not.

Mark Twain once said that he didn't believe in an afterlife, but nevertheless expected one.

I don't know if Twain was jesting, but it's very possible he was telling the truth about himself. I mean: to any normal person; Hell and eternal suffering are illogical, unreasonable, cruel, and unthinkable. But nevertheless we intuitively fear them anyway in spite of our better judgment telling us Hell and eternal suffering are too extreme.

Sir, why not believe God's word, and THEN you will know.

Jesus paid for our sins, and it was NOT ETERNAL SUFFERING in a hellfire! He was put to DEATH, or in other words, he perish! but because death and the grave had NO POWER or RIGHT over him, he was raised FROM THE DEAD by the power of God!

If the payment for our sins was hellfire for eternity, then according to your understanding and many others, Jesus DID NOT truly pay for our sins, it is as simple as that!

I ask you according to the word of God~what are the wages of sin? You say eternal punishment in hellfire~God's testimony said DEATH! I'll go with the word of God over Mark Twain, Billy Graham, Jimmy Swaggart, and a host of other men who do not truly follow the scriptures.

Twain was not an atheist; he was a Presbyterian. His tombstone is engraved with a poem that looks forward to re-uniting with his family in the afterlife.

Now, he was highly critical of organized religion during his lifetime, owing to the fact that he was philosophically a critic and occupationally a comedian. Modern-day atheists seem to be fond of quoting him, and sometimes mis-quoting him.

Faith is believing what God says enough to put it into action. To do that, you have to understand the message.

Some within the church have twisted it to mean 'believe whatever we tell you to, even in contravention of common sense.' That is the nonsense that Twain is lampooning.
