How do you study the Bible and become more well-versed and smarter and wiser with respect to Bible, so that you arent so easily squashed in disagreements about what something means etc?

Read the bible from the beginning to the end! take your time the Lord is watching and he will give you time.
keep in mind that it is the same story told over and over again.
Don't worry about the holy spirit leading you in all truth until you read God's truth, you have to know what truth is first.

Now lets put some bible verses with this

find a church(preacher)  that teach God's truth this is required. Solomon said

Eccles 12v  9: And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
10: The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
11: The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

the Lord told us how to read his word and he mentioned nothing about context.
Isaiah said read his word this way

Isa 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge?  and whom shall he make to understand doctrine?  them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10: For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
11: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
12: To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
13: But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

we are to read Jesus words line upon line and precept upon precept, here a little and there a little.

then Jesus had Paul to witness for Isaiah

we read where Paul said

2Tm 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

How do you study God's word dividing the word of truth!!!

The Bible is the truth. And the truth that God has imparted through His Word is found linked within the Old and New Testaments. In Bible study, it is important to see these connecting Scriptures and that I think, was the methodology used by the Bereans (see Acts 17:10-12). By studying this way, we can prevent falling into the heresies that others have advanced because they began taking isolated Scriptures out of context.

Connecting the OT and NT truths and " types " is made easier by studying a Bible that has some form of detailed cross-referencing. Thompson's Chain Reference Bible is a very good reference tool as is Nave's Topical Bible. My great grandmother's family Bible (dated 1884) was published in Scotland. It is almost a foot thick with each page listing scores of parallel passages, cross references and commentary on difficult/obscure passages by various noted theologians. It offers me far more detail than any other Bible I have come across.

I agree with what the majority has said here.  Pray when reading the Bible and ask for Wisdom and Understanding.  I would add (if one has the time) that it never hurts to read a few commentaries written by godly men.

"Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety."--Proverbs 11:14

A heretic or unwise teacher can proclaim a point----but as the "Noble Bereans" we need to establish that it is so.  If a majority of competent Bible teachers have been given wisdom and it is entirely different than one fringe teacher, we need to accept those "multitude of counselors"---because it is for our own good.

It is easier just to let someone tell you what it says. Be a follower not a leader. Leaders have to answer for all they lead astray. Followers just need to exercise faith in that their leader is a true spokesman for Christ.

Ah, but in that case isn't the follower accountable for the leader he chooses to follow?  Pondering

What I did was to be interested in a specific subject, like lets say, the Sabbath, which day is it really?

Get a pen and paper and write all the references to the Sabbath question or any other subject matter you may want to learn. Then pray that God give you the understanding of what you read. Read each verse over, looking at it and thinking about it. You will be supprised how much you can accomplish. For instance. notice Geneses Ch. 2: 7; it states that God breathed into the nostrils of of man and man became a living soul. If that be the case, the body is the Soul of man. When man dies he becomes a dead soul. Just look at your scriptures really close.

The first thing I do before I open my Bible is pray and ask the Holy Spirit to give me understanding of what I am reading. I then take a verse at a time and try to get all the meaning I can out of it before I move on to the next verse as then the whole chapter is revealed for knowledge. I study through the KJV with the help of the Jerusalem Bible and the Strong's Concordance for definitions of certain words in the Greek and Hebrew. I also use the Smith's Bible Dictionary to look up certain words.

continue to read really close: a dude hacked up his dead woman, and sent the parts all around the Hebrew lands.  It brought about revival.  Go for it?

It's good to read a balance of Old Testament and New Testament, prayefully, and seeking to see the Person and Work of Christ, which is the central message.

John 3.16 contains great theology, without doubt.

Read God's Word prayerfully every day; it's a joy and privilege.

If folks feel they must have TATTOOS, have you considered having faith related designs tattooed?

(And try vacationing in the South: plenty of sun, and some great churches down there!)
