Been wanting to take St. John's wort for my anxiety, is it Biblical?

Or are we to rely solely on God for things like that?

Dear kelli, I read of your situation on another thread of being nineteen, one child, neither you or your husband employed, and having to live with your in-laws; I don't think all the medicines in the world could help the anxiety of that situation, though I will admit I know nothing about St. John's wort. I can only give you my experience.

God can heal us with healing in his wings as He lifts us from our present situation, and supplies all our need according to His riches in glory. I did not say our wants, but through the years God has been so good to me and my family. I married at eighteen while in the service as a A3C; my wife was seventeen. I made 71 cents per hour based on a 40 hour week which was normally 80 hours per week. Over one third of our income went to rent, and food was high as we had a child one year later and most anything extra always went to her. We did not have a car most of the time, nor gas to put into one when we got one. We couldn't even afford a 13 inch black and white TV for the first three years of marriage. I learned to fish, and would buy 12 sea worms (eight inch long sea centipedes) with my last 60 cents to use as bait, and God would let me catch enough fish to last us the remainder of the month (It sure was good).

Presently you have the world seemingly on your shoulders with little hope of getting out of your situation, and with that thought in mind, I would probably be growing worts to sell; not looking at them as a source of healing. If you are not presently doing so, you might enroll in some free home schooling courses offered through the state you live in, and that would give you purpose, and a goal. Without those, you will always feel as a burden. With God in your life, things are going to get better. Be in constant communion with God, and you will see a difference.

May God bless you and your husband, and his family in caring for you in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

God gave us medicines for our good.  God gave people knowledge on how to use medicines.  Paul told Timothy to use wine to help his stomach problems.

God doesn’t heal all sickness.  Why not, I don’t know.  I try not to second-guess God.

Anxiety may be a chemical imbalance in the brain and medicines can off set this imbalance.

My wife, who may have been the most spiritual woman in our lifetime, was an abused child, and had a anxiety problem.  She also was a genius with a very high IQ and educated in psychology.  She needed medicines right up to her death.

Kelli If you are nursing your baby or are subject to becoming pregnant with another one stay away from St John's
Wort.  This is a dangerous substance.  This can cause serious harm to baby's transmitted through mothers milk.

Actually Ecclesiasticus (The Wisdom of Jesus Son of Sirach) 38:4-5 says,

"The Lord created medicines out of the earth, and the sensible will not despise them.
Was not water made sweet with a tree in order that its power might be known?"

P.S.  The above is only meant to signify that there is nothing wrong with taking herbs, medicines, or going to the doctor. Such are a blessing from God and do not stand in opposition to "faith".  And it was not meant as an endorsement for taking St. John's Wort specifically.  My knowledge of herbs is almost 0.

"Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:14 & 15
