Tomorrows memorial,any plans?

I'll have to go to work tomorrow and work from 7 to 5.  I think the store plans to have a moment of silence around 8 am and refrain from playing music throughout the day.

Not to be a worry wart, please folks be careful tomorrow, especially you who are in the big cities.

We had our memorial service tonight at church.  We had the Max Lucado prayer video shown tonight and we also showed it Sunday as well.  Very powerful and emotional (very hard to sing after it).  We had ours tonight because the elders wanted the prayers to go out for all before the big day tomorrow for those who may really have a hard day tomorrow.

We sang a few patriotic songs along with some hymns.  The police dpt. and fire departments were there as well as our fire chief who was at ground zero from 9/12, on.  He had a video showing scenes that have never been shown on T.V.  Very moving.  We also had large boards portrayed throughout the church building with every single name of all those who lost their lives.  All passengers names, job, ages, residence were listed along with all who were in the WTC  and Pentagon and the rescue workers.  It was like looking at the Vietnam Wall.  Sad to see the names and ages of those little children on the planes.

We prayed for the leaders, our enemies, and we had all the police and fireman stand and then we gathered around the ones closest and prayed for them.  Great night and not too many dry eyes.

We also showed the Lisa Beamer video about her husband and their faith.

i don't know about church tonight, but at work (sloan-hendrix schools) there will be an assembly.  i have one student singing 'america the beautiful', one singing 'amazing grace', my hs band will play the national anthem, and my son and i will play 'taps' (echo and out of field-of-vision).

Where will I be tonight?

Already this morning I've participated in moments of silence, heard reverent recitals of victims' names... Now I'm going off to drive some people around who have no car.

Tonight I will either be "in church", singing and praying and discussing Scripture... or I'll go to a patriotic music concert, in which at least one of our church members will perform, at the local shopping mall.

I might prefer to be at the public venue.  Perhaps I'll get to comfort someone or pray with/for them.

I assume there is only one Sloan-Hendrix school, so you must be in Imboden.

 I'm driving up to the Madison CoC in Nashville for the ceremony services at noon in the parking lot.

We have a memorial service planned as part of our Wed. night program. I'm using a video clip called "America Remembers". It features a prayer written by Max Lucado after the attack last Sept.

The Magnolia church of Christ in Florence has a memorial program planned for this Wed PM. It looks to be thoughtfully planned and should be a blessing. If you live in the Florence area drop by at 6:30 PM.

Tonight I will be doing what I usually do, taking reservations for United Airlines, although I have a feeling fewer people will be calling than usual.  We have memorial services planned throughout the day (as I type this I am wearing a ribbon we have been given remembering specifically the pilots, flight attendents, CSR's and passengers who were lost on the flights).  

We had our memorial Sunday mornign at church, and Dad used some material that quoted from the Max Lucado prayer.  Someone asked if he had a copy of the whole thing, which he didn't, so Mike, thanks for the link.  Tonight the church may, if everyone is willing, go to a candlelight service at a local high school which one of our teenagers (or more accurately, our one teenager) will participate in.

I live in the DC area.  I remember driving by the pentagon a few days after the attack and bursting into tears when I saw the gaping wound left by the explosion.  The school system where I work was hit pretty hard.  We had 27 families who lost an immediate family member in the blast (mother, father, or spouse).  My husband's brother worked on the same floor as the blast but thankfully he was not hurt. The morning of the blast my office was in a state of panick (as most offices were I'm sure) because almost everyone had a family member or close friend who worked at the Pentagon.  The administrator had us lock all the doors to the building.  No one knew exactly what was happening and the thought was that we might be under an attack.  It was so scary.  All the phone lines were jammed and no one could call to check on anyone.  I remember thinking that all I wanted was to be with my husband.  I remember praying that I would just be able to get home to him.  

At noon today, a number of us gathered in a large circle around the flagpole, held hands, sang "God bless America", and someone led us in a prayer (we did not worry about the political correctness or legality of that action). There were tears and expressions of remembrance from various people in the group.  It was very moving.  

At church tonight, our minister gave a moving message; we prayed together, and sang songs about America. Tonight I feel sad, but also I feel such a love for my church family and my husband. I am so thankful that I have the Lord in my life, that I have Him to turn to when times are dark.

Hey, marc!  Another airline employee here...  I work as a dispatcher in Delta's operations center.  Yesterday was very, very quiet in here as well with many cancellations due to folks choosing not to fly.  I hope the day passed well for you and your colleagues.

Our memorial service last night was very moving.  We usually have small groups on Wednesdays, so it was different have 700-800 of us packing in the auditorium (we also have multiple services on Sundays.)  The singing was great -- everyone seemed to be very worshipful and eager to sing out.  The church staff put together a video montage with a musical background that was extremely well done.  There were several visitors from the community in attendance as well.
