It is there.

So mommidi.

Do you think that the spiritual problem defined in Revelation 2:20-23 had nothing to do with any kind of principality or power behind the spiritual problem?  Was the reason for it all just the person named Jezebel or was there something spiritual behind what Jezebel was saying?  Is Ephesians 6:10-17 not a factor?

If there was a principality or power behind the happenstance recorded in Revelation 2:20-23, might it not be defined as a Jezebel spirit, for lack of better terminology?

When Jesus cast out demons in His ministry, and they cried out with blood-curdling screams....are you saying that the Lord was wrong to cast them out because it was drawing attention away from God?

justbyfaith, I appreciate your comments on this subject - really, I do. The thing is, your comments, along with the other pro-SoJ comments, involve circular reasoning, which lacks validity. Please take one minute and forty-five seconds to watch this short video on circular reasoning and begging the question. See if it helps you understand how your argument is a form of circular reasoning.  ::smile::

NorrinRadd,
Quote
The fact that something *may* be *inferred* from a particular *interpretation* of Scripture -- and in this particular case, from a book that is unique in Scripture for its literary style, and notoriously hard to interpret -- hardly justifies firmly declaring "it is there."
It's like the Ancient Aliens show narrator who always uses phrases like "Could it be that...." and "Could they have been seeing....", because they have no proof "Here it is."  ::pondering::

Im not a teacher or one who knows the history but there are many here. So who are the ones behind her Baal ? And if so what did they demand of mankind because its a trade

The actual Jezebel was a Phoenician princess who brought her religion with her when she was married to the Israelite king Ahab.

Baal and Asherah were her gods, and both were cults of fertility and farming.  They erected Asherah poles, which are just phallic statues, at "high places."  Worship consisted of masked orgies of anonymous sex, but there were other rituals for de-flowering virgins, and castrating men.  Of course, you can't have a fertility cult without some form of infanticide, because unwanted babies.  So, the "gods" also demanded the life of your firstborn child, who was typically crushed into a jar and buried in the wall of your house...  for good luck, of course.  Other children might also be demanded, especially if the husband suspected he wasn't the father.

Charming religion, right? ::eek::

Thanks for that graphic description, Wycliffes. The next time a Christian brother wants to accuse a sister of possessing that kind of spirit, he needs to thoroughly examine the history of Jezebel and decide if he really thinks she is that debased before he goes about willy-nilly accusing her. OTOH, maybe that's how he views her. To some men, women fall into only two categories - Madonna or Jezebel. It's one or the other. The highest of the high, or the lowest of the low.
People are weird.

The more I think about the evilness of the real Jezebel, with everything you've described here, the more heartsick I am for any woman accused of being possessed or used by this so-called Spirit of Jezebel. Infanticide, castrating men, orgies, de-flowering virgins, worshiping phallic statues.... Why any man would accuse a sister of such things, who wasn't involved in any of those things - it's just sick in every way. Spiritually sick.

mommydi it is really bad once the full history of her is out there. I always thought it was a man hating control freak who wanted to be queen bee but history tells a bigger tale. Maybe its just another test of can we forgive those who accuse us ?

Yes, it much more than a strong-willed woman. It's dark, and sickening. And to be on the receiving end is like a sucker-punch to the spiritual gut. It's obvious he won't ever apologize for associating me with a demon that's credited for such debauchery as baby killing, orgies, de-flowering virgins, worshiping phallic statues - and he won't apologize for the dark spiritual burden he put on me. Regrettably, an apology begged for is not worth having.
The best thing I could hear is that he has repented of blaming sisters for his own weaknesses and labeling them with the filthy, demonic Spirit of Jezebel. That isn't happening.  ::frown::

It's sick in many ways. This is a perfect application of
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

This distracts from CHRIST and our devotion to him. It makes people take devotion away from CHRIST and divide it amongst other things. For those who believe and have advocated the simplicity our walk with God, this is a contradiction.

It really shows the lack of knowledge and also the lack of love within the body. I myself am  looking at this whole thing differently , so you could say that God has turned this around for good. Well sister, you have paid a price for others to come into the knowledge of truth. There is no label on you now because truth has set you free.

That was a nice video, but I noticed that it came from something called "Philosphy-tube."  I would point you to Colossians 2:8.

The premise for the video is against certain Christian things.  One might say through the video's logic that believing the Bible is the word of God is the result of circular reasoning, because the Bible claims to be the word of God.

Of course, there are testimonies outside of the biblical record that testify to the fact that the Bibile is the word of God; nevertheless it is often argued that those who believe it is believe so because of circular reasoning; and so the logic that you are using is the same kind of logic used by unbeievers to deny the authority of scripture.

This is philosophy based in the rudiments of the world and not after Christ.

Also I asked you some questions above.  Do you care to answer them?

Yes, this is indeed circular reasoning, and is therefore logically invalid.

If "The Bible is the word of God because it claims to be such" is the extent of the evidence you present, skeptics have every reason to ignore you, as does anyone interested in rational discourse.

Nevertheless the fact that it claims to be the word of God means that if a person is going to be honest in examining the testimony of scripture he must examine the claim to see if it is valid.

If the claim were not there, then there would be no reason or less of a reason to look further in to examine whether the claim is valid or not.

Because the claim is there, a person may be led to see if there is any evidence for the claim.

When I looked into it, I found ample evidence for the claim.

But if (again), the claim had not been there, I probably would never have looked any further concerning the idea of whether the Bible is really the word of God, or not.

The spirit of Jez is just that, an evil spirit. When we talking about the spirit of Jezebel - we are talking about the spirit that was in her, and that spirit is still around, plus we also know that in the O.T. names were very important, so the name of that spirit could very well be Jezebel. Someone asked for book and chapter to prove by the bible that Jezebel is in the church today....

Quote
Rev 2:20 But I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet and who teaches and leads my servants to practice immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
Rev 2:21 I gave her time to repent, but she refused to repent of her immorality.
Rev 2:22 Look! I am going to strike her with illness. Those who commit adultery with her will also suffer greatly, unless they repent from acting like her.
Rev 2:23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches minds and hearts. I will reward each of you as your actions deserve.

That is talking to a N.T. church - Talking about the spirit of Jezebel.

That is talking to a N.T. church - Talking about the spirit of Jezebel.

Yes I did post that passage a while back, it wasnt received very well.  ::eek::

What's not taken very well...

When a Christian man tries to persuade a Christian woman that she is influenced/possessed/used by the "Spirit of Jezebel" when she in no way resembles the real Jezebel.

The real Jezebel and her religion -

1. Orgies with anonymous sex
2. Rituals of de-flowering virgins
3. Rituals of castrating men
4. Worshiping phallic symbols/statues
5. Firstborn child crushed and placed into a jar for good luck

Now, maybe you and notreligus, who promote this practice of accusing Christian women of this "Spirit of Jezebel" might explain why a Christian man would try to persuade a Christian woman she's got this demon buzzing about her, when she has participated in none of the debauchery and filth that the real Jezebel's religion was known for. Why would any Christian want to heap that dark spiritual burden upon a sister in Christ? Do you two care to answer?

Is he, there is no reference that I am aware of that speaks of the "spirit" of Jezebel in the Bible.  ::headscratch::

In Revelations John talks of a woman named Jezebel, that she happens to have some similar characteristics to the woman named Jezebel in Kings does not confirm that these Jezebels were possessed by an evil spirit of the same name, If they were indeed possessed maybe it was by Slumglob, Slumtrumpet, or Glubose.  ::shrug::

Carey,
Good point. Neither of them were said to be possessed. Yet people are possessed "by" Jezebel.

Remember the O.T. is a type and shadow of the New, When a person (not just a woman) is influenced by things that are the same as the evil queen Jezebel - then repentance needs to be done. An example of the "character" of Jezebel in the church would be as basic as men (or woman) looking at porn.

What if your daughter displayed none of the characteristics of the real Jezebel, but yet, a man tried to convince her that Jezebel was using her?

Yep, and their manufactured religion allows them to point the bony finger of blame at Jezzy instead of working on their own weaknesses.

I'm not saying that we should judge, as some do. I am saying not to be blind to the works of Satan and his minions in the earth today, and to guard are own selves from the very real seducing spirit of seduction that according to Revelations is named after the seductress Jezebel. I don't read "into" the word, I just read the word and believe what it says.

I agree to point our bony finger at some young girl screaming Jezebel is very wrong, and those that do will be judge is like manner. I am just asking don't dismiss that there is a seducing spirit - and that is what is referred to as Jezebel. Not a person.

Faithbuilders,
It has nothing to do with Jezebel.
Mark 7:20-23 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. [21] For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come---sexual immorality, theft, murder, [22] adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. [23] All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

This where that stuff comes from, not a concocted spirit that shows up nowhere in the Bible.

There is no seducing spirit of seduction in Revelation named after the seductress Jezebel.

You can't set up a belief system and conversation around something with no foundation.

I'm in my 50s and a grandmother - even so - I was falsely accused. I don't know whether to laugh or cry about that.

mommydi,
I think crying is more appropriate, that people are so taken in by things that are not Biblical that they believe it's part of Christianity.

I must say that I am very surprised. I never expected 21 pages. I never knew this topic was so resonating.

The spirit of Jezebel doesn't fall into the category of Biblical topics. The spirit of Jezebel falls into the category of church culture.
