10 Best All Time (from a 41 year old who can remember the ATARI system :) )

1. Zelda - The Ocarina of Time (N64) - it set the standard for RPG's
2. NHL 94 (Genesis) - at the time it was made and for a few years after it was the best sports video game ever made
3. Goldeneye (N64) - like Zelda for the 64, it changed the way FPS were looked at and made for consoles
4. Super Mario Kart (SNES) - with power ups, weapons and quirky characters and 4 player action, it was the best racer of its time
5. Command and Conquer Red Alert (PC) - who didn't play this real time strategy??? I sitll play it once in a while today
6. Gran Turismo 3 (PS2) - Super deep racing sim, one could argue the GT II on the PS1 was better, but GT 3 was so graphically strong I put it ahead of GT 2
7. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - Best Platformer ever made, considering how many clunker games there are for the Wii this is the real must have for the Wii system
8. Civilization (PC) - the Series has only gotten better over time (throwing out Call To Power which was an outrage), but it all started with the first Civ
9. Myst (PC) -  the best puzzle game ever made, extremely challenging but rewarding at the same time
10. Super Tecmo Bowl (NES) - Before there was Madden, this was the first NFL football game on a console that kept stats. More than that it was a kick to play. You could play an entire season in one afternoom

Honorable mentions:

Baseball Stars (NES) - the game kept stats but played great, you could play 9 innings in under 20 minutes
Star Fox 64 (N64) - Great action adventure fun game
Halo (XBOX) - It was tough not putting it in the Top Ten but I really think Goldeneye set the standard for FPS but Halo is definitely one of the best ever
Sea Battle (Intellivision) - considering it was 1982 this game had a remarkable ammount of strategy

my humble 2 cents

I don't like the running jumping and shoot up games (partly because I'm useless at them). I prefer the strategy/building/buying & selling games. I haven't played any for some time now but the ones I still have and may play again sometime are:

Europa 1400 - The Guild
The Guild 2
Anno 1503 - the New World
Settlers - Heritage of Kings
Patrician III

They all have some fighting & battles in them but I try & avoid those bits.
