I hope FF13 comes out on the xbox 360.

I hate to burst you bubble, but I think it's a PS3 exclusive.  Along with Uncharted 2, inFamous, and some other games that I can't think of now.

We've played a couple of the games on the Nintendo consoles [that's the one we buy].

I suppose Nintendo have always had our vote because of Secret of Manna on the snes, which we still play, but I think the battery's going flat.

Personally we don't believe there's been a game to beat Secret of Manna, and have always wished there was a sequal [we thought FF might have been that sequal].

Computer games are a "together" thing for our family and, sadly, there are not many multiplayer games out there. The versus offer is not the same as playing the whole adventure as part of a team.

Actually there is a few sequals to Mana.  But only 1 (secret of Evermore) came on SNES.  The other games (Children of Mana/Dawn of Mana/Hero's of Mana/etc) have been released on GBA, PS2, etc.

Yeah, but they all miss the multiplayer function. I didn't find Secret of Evermore as playable, nor did the platform appear as big. I think we have all the others on the GBA - Dan plays them periodically.

Final Fantasy VII was good, no doubt, but it's extremely overplayed. Advent Children was amazing, especially in BluRay. The detail made my eyes bleed. :P

But I'm actually in favor of Final Fantasy VIII, and the gameplay of Final Fantasy X. I hated Tidus' whiny attitude, but the SphereGrid system I grew to absolutely love.

Final Fantasy XIII is ONLY for PS3, and so is Final Fantasy XIII-Versus.
Final Fantasy XIV is an MMO, and Nobuo Uematsu, the original sound/music guy for most of the Final Fantasy franchise, is returning to FFXIV (I wished he returned for XIII, but oh well)

^Hello Lightshade.  Smile

I also really enjoyed Final Fantasy VIII and people's negative reactions to that game make we want to challenge them to a gunblade duel!

I'm in about the first third of Final Fantasy XII and I find it a tough pill to swallow. There are several characters that are just terrible, namely Ashe and Penelo, Vaan and Penelo. And it is TOTALLY:

Vaan=Luke Skywalker (even to the point of wanting to fly an airship)
Ashe=Leia
Balthier=Han Solo
Fran=Chewie (machine-savvy, combat-ready, non-human side-kick to Balthier/Solo)
Judges=Darth Vader

Even the sand people show up! You rescue the princess similar to that Death Star rescue (aboard the "Leviathan"). The way all the races show up in the game just feels so much like Star Wars, too. The cutscenes drive me nuts except it's a relief when Balthier shows up, and where Matsuno's previous work was well-translated (Vagrant Story, in particular) this one just has obnoxiously-stilted dialogue. The compressed audio makes the voicework painful to hear.

The license board is another sphere grid, except it makes the game kinda hairy. When you want to buy new weapons/equipment, you have to make sure that it's unlocked on the thing, EVERY single one. And the dog-gone gambits . . .

The upshot is that its art direction is just spectacular. It makes you wish they built real cities out of what they designed here. The dungeon crawling can be pretty fun, and it's still oddly entertaining with the pseudo-MMORPG feel. Makes me wish I didn't quit FFXI (except it was so time-consuming and expensive!).

Sadly, I'm not much of a Star Wars fan at all.

What do you think?

My best friend Andrew, a gamer guru, made this exact same synopsis on FFXII. I see it as well. I own FFXII, but have only dabbled in it.

FFXIII, I hear (don't take my word for it), is going to be played like Kingdom Hearts and Crisis Core. Plus, there's blood. ...lots of it. I'm TOTALLY picking it up. haha. Yay for stylized action.

FFXIV is going to be an MMORPG. Dunno if I'll bite. I'll probably be too busy playing Knights of the Old Republic MMO. (Say goodbye to WoW, gaming world. lol)

I only seriously started getting into FFXII recently. One thing I'll say in step with the namesake, though: it's darn fun. Matsuno's writing is often clever even if it feels so derivative (but in fairness, how do you honestly avoid that all the time?)
