LOL, I AM that old!

Definitely remember riding with my mom-in law to a gas station here in Greenville SC that was the very last holdout in the city for giving this personal attention of pumping the gas for you while you sat in your car.  She liked the pampered treatment, and refused to go anywhere else while it was still operating.

I remember it.  Never worked at a gas station but remember 15 cents a gallon during "price wars" between competing service stations.

Well now, I beat you~I got paid $1.00/hour back in the mid-sixties for running a quick stop that had gas. So, let me see, you must have done that in the mid-fifties!

Sherry used to come by and bring me supper and a big hug...... that's when we were dating during Hi School.

After I got married, I leased a Conoco Service State in the early 60s.  I can remember gas at 17 cents a gallon during price wars and 9 cents of that was state and federal tax.  I was also making 1 1/4 cents a gallon on regular and 1 1/2 cents a gallon on ethyl.  And even there I was doing pretty well.  Sometimes I think I should have stayed with that, but I decided to go back to school for mechanical engineering.  I was also buying cigarettes at 17 cents a pack and selling them in my cigarette machine for a quarter a pack.  That was my go-kart racing money.  Life was good.

When I started driving we had both full service and self serve for a slightly lower price, I always preferred the self serve.

Exactly.....17 cents per gallon is what I remembered for we would go boating for vacation and water ski all week. We still go once a week during the summer, yet I retired from water skiing a few years ago when I replaced both knees.

Brother, my best friend is a  mechanical engineer and owns his own business with several engineers working for him in August Ga. Look him up: http://www.haglersystems.com/about/  Bob is the CEO and his brother David right under him. You would appreciate him and his gift.

4WD, do you remember this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_Service_Station_(Winston-Salem,_North_Carolina)#/media/File:Shell_Station-1.jpg

My Father's and his mother and myself lived and grew up within three streets of this I could walk there is less than 10 minutes. It is still there today!

I didn’t find any cracks on the yellow structure, but yes the driveway was cracked. I guess the yellow building was a plaster shell, but maybe recently restored?

I love it.  My mother's uncle had a small little store in Gaynor Missouri.  It had those old hand actuated gas pumps.
