The ArkJune 26, 2007, 09:37:46 PM
I saw Evan Almighty again tonight. I've only returned to the theater to see a movie a second time once before so you know what I think of the movie.

It's a funny move, don't get me wrong, but there's something about the movie that really hits me hard. There's a scene when Evan is standing on the ark God told him to build and everyone is laughing at him. They yell insults at him. Telling him he's crazy and strange. All the while, he's concerned for them and telling them that they need to get into the ark because there's a flood coming. It happened to the Noah of history as well. I won't ruin the movie for you by telling you what happens next, but there was a lesson I learned from that scene.

That lesson is that sometimes in life we do things that we know to be right and the reaction from the world will be insults. Mocking. Lies.

The world is just like those people surrounding Noah's ark. The world is lost and a terrible day is coming for most of them when they'll be without anything to save them. And yet, their reaction to those of us who care and want them in the safety of the ark of salvation is the same. Insults. Mocking. Lies.

Was Noah judgmental in telling the people surrounding him that a flood was coming that would drown them unless they get into the ark? That's what the world says today. They say that suggesting they might need salvation is judgmental. This despite the fact that we're not claiming to be the judge but simply know the judge's decision beforehand because of His Word.

But the bottom line was this. Noah didn't stop (neither did Evan in the movie). "Who told you to build this ark?" they asked. "God" he answered with a soft but determined tone, and they laugh.

"Come onto the ark so you'll be saved." Noah said.

"We don't need saving!" They yell back with mixed laughter and shouts of anger.

Then the flood came and they were all killed. The Bible says that Noah could hear their screams from within the ark but by that time could not do anything to save them.

Interesting how history repeats itself.
