What is the Mediterrainian Diet?
« on: March 23, 2012, 08:37:23 PM »
I have heard this MD is quite good ---what is it?
I believe a faithful "child of God" should trust our Savior --the Lord Jesus (which pleases the Father), worship Him and make Him our best Friend;  value "unity of the faith", be non-sectarian and hold fully to Scripture ---declaring "all the counsel of God" and be "rightly dividing the Word of Truth" as the Apostle Paul counseled the saints.  Let us look up always (note John 14).

Maybe it is not a formal Diet, but just a way of eating ---more fish, veggies, nuts, fruits;  and less sugar and various carbs???

Along with a Mediterrainian type diet, one needs to begin a gradually increasing walk 3-4 times a week (10, then 20, then 30 minute walk away from home, then return;  and increasing the speed after one is used to it).

Of course, with any diet (or actually life style change) one needs to also not only eat right and exercise, but stop doing harmful things like drinking soda pop and other sugar items and baked goods, etc.  I have trouble over the sugar and baked goods idea, but I am trying to limit it to no more than a little once a weeks.

The Mediterranean Diet is a way of eating based on the traditional foods and drink surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. The Mediterranean Diet is not a diet even though it is a great way to lose weight or improve your health. Rather, it is a lifestyle including foods, activities, meals with friends and family, and wine in moderation with meals. Research has shown that the traditional Mediterranean diet reduces the risk of heart disease.

Yes, I am sure, and I try to apply it (with some chocolate on occasion).  I think the people in Jesus' time did eat somewhat like that, and only ate red meat at special feasts.  They also walked a lot.  We are killing ourselves with poor diet and little exercise.

A few years ago my wife and I toured Israel, and did find most buffets laid out at hotels for the tour groups used cheese, fish, and eggs for their protein, and had lots of veggies, olives, and fruit (even for breakfast).

Another thing to consider Seriousseeker is the largest meal of the day is lunched and served around 2pm.

But I think I like the blood type diet, after reading about it a couple days ago I noticed a similar pattern in how I eat and my husband eats, it seems to be something natural to us. I always wondered why he needs to eat so much protein and I don't, it matches our blood types.
