Something new... laptop to printer communications
« on: Tue Sep 25, 2018 - 15:49:45 »
::destroyingcomputer::  For the past 2 weeks I have has many issues in trying to get certain things I have found on the laptop printed

::destroyingcomputer:: I never had any trouble until recently.

::destroyingcomputer:: I have been able to scan into the laptop and do email attachments

::destroyingcomputer:: I have been able to print my own docs with no trouble.

::destroyingcomputer:: NOW, a lot of stuff I used to have no trouble with shows as if it is going to print but instead has me save it as a doc instead.

::destroyingcomputer:: But not all of these will allow me to print what I save.

 ::destroyingcomputer:: Ideas?

I have no help or encouragement, only sympathy.  I have not used my printer/scanner for several years because I no longer have the combination of knowledge, will, and focus to set up and troubleshoot the connection.  ::frustrated::

Sometimes I miss the days of Windows 3 / DOS 6.  Of course, that is equivalent to saying I miss the days when I was in my 30s and much more tech-capable.   ::frown::

Appears you have a driver issue.
Is your printer wireless or with a cable to your laptop?

Appears you have a driver issue.
Is your printer wireless or with a cable to your laptop?

Printer is wireless.

The one laptop has been doing this for a year.

This one was perfect until a month or so ago.

I think I will uninstall and reinstall the printer and see if that helps.

The main trouble seems to be with certain internet articles... like the ones I will post in the political forum.
Almost as if they have a way to stop being printed... even though they all say spread the word...

Yesterday I copied and pasted one into a doc and saved it.

It was Donald Trumps full speech, in writing , to the UN. (28 pages)

And then tried to print from the doc....

I got the message that I had to save my already saved doc...

So......... you mentioned drivers........

Could be, from the standpoint that Avast would occasionally scan for driver issues , then tell me I had issues, but to fix I had to pay them. NO, I won't.

I recently stopped the paid Avast and am running the free version.....

Can't help but wonder if they monkeyed around behind my back.....

I know on the laptop they always have a popup that says my System Mechanic is riskware, and blocked... though not on either of the other 2 laptops.

Well, I shall play with some scans and uninstall and reinstall and see what happens.

Thanks

And if I am a racist?  Just sayin.... LOL, then monkeyed around is acceptable for me?  rofl

Anyhoo. Printer problem solved.

I ordered a new one.

Yesra ago, when buying a new one, at Sams, the salesman sold me one of the cheaper models. He said, non of the "home" models lasts
for a long time and if you pay less then $100 for one and only get a year or two you are ahead of the game.

So I had bought one for about $85 and it lasted 3 years.

Then I replaced that with an HP that I paid $60.41 tax included for and it has lasted just shy of 2 years. That was from Amazon.

Amazon still has that one but it is now $99.99 plus tax. So I went searching and landed on Ebay.

I got the same model, new, for $46.99 plus $1 S/H and I sprung for a 3 year warranty thing for $4.99....

So... reasonable cause this model deos what I want.

Past 4 or 5 months I have been printng 300 to 400 pages a month.

This one had the HP instant ink feature, which I tried and love.

You pick your own level.  Example I pick 300 pages a month and they charge 9.99 and send me ink for "free... if I go over it is $1.00 more per each hundred pages.... If I will not be printing so much I can cut the pages back.

300 to 400 had me buying XL ink about every 4 to 5 weeks at a minimum of $60 for both black and color..... This saves a ton.

Now....... if the new printer does not work... well it has to cause I could print nothing after all my scans and cleanups today.

I bought a Canon laser printer for $99 off Amazon four years ago.  It still works great.

I grabbed one also, an MF4450. A bit older but works great on Win 10 and Mint.

The best printer I've ever had is the HP Pro 477DW. It's the best AirPrint office printer using HP's excellent Page Width printhead technology designed for a single sweeping pass, thus creating incredibly fast print quality consistently, time after time. I can't fault it.

I'm sure someone will want to sell you a new one...  ::smile:: (Not necessarily the problem, though...)

Well, I got a new printer.

And it is working fine... but there still are a few things  that will not print... like that picture I posted in the Judge Kavanaugh lost his job thread.

No matter what I do or when I move it, it will not print... it only will save....

and there are a couple of online articles doing the same, so I am thinking they have somehow
managed to stop people from printing everything???

Can you put a link to the article you want to print?
I have no idea what it is you are trying to do. A step by step explanation would be nice.

It is indeed possible (very simple actually) to prevent a user from printing a web page.
And there are also multiple ways to go around it.

Oh yes, of course! Some docs and images are not able to be copied or downloaded so there is always the Print Screen (PrtSc) method, works very well but some resolution is usually lost in the process.
