The Sabbath was made for us, so do we understand its purpose?
23One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. 24The Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?" 25He answered, "Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? 26In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions." 27Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." Mark 2:23-27
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it." Genesis 1:1; 2:2, 3.
God made the Sabbath at the time of Creation, after He made the world and everything in it. God rested on the Sabbath and blessed and sanctified it, which is set it apart for a holy use. The Sabbath and the family were alike instituted in Eden, and it was God's plan for man to share His love with man and man with Him through these. So at Creation God set up the framework for mankind to be associated in work and study, in worship and recreation, and both father and mother as teachers and companions of their children. God's love has set a limit to the demands of toil and then a day of rest. In His own day He preserves for the family opportunity for communion with Him, with nature, and with one another.
The Sabbath is a sign of creative and redeeming power, it points to God as the source of life and knowledge; it recalls Creation and God making man in His own image, and thus witnesses to God's purpose to re-create us in His own image. The Sabbath of the Lord bears His name and seal and is the day above all others when we should acquaint ourselves with God through His works of Creation, communing with God and reading and shariong His word.

The sabbath was made for the Israelites. They considered gentiles to be dogs, so could Jesus have been using sarcasm when He told them it was made for man?
The sabbath was the sign of the covenant between God and Israel. It pointed to Christ, their rest and their redeemer. They were to remember they were delivered from slavery in Egypt, they were redeemed, and they were given rest on the sabbath. They were even fed on the sabbath by the living bread, another name for Christ.
Hi Hobie, I presume your Genesis account of God resting on the day after all He created and then setting it apart for family use didn't really come from any part of the Holy Writ. My being a SDA for many years it was drilled into me just what you wrote. I call it SDA embellishment and its author Ellen White was responsible for adding this thought.
If God had wanted all mankind to observe the day He rested He certainly didn't get the message to anyone except Israel. Please tell us why all mankind should observe the exodus out of Egypt. You do know God gave Israel the Sabbath to commemorate that event don't you? As far as creation is concerned we have the Creator to worship. He has given all mankind the way to escape the death we deserve. We should be thankful and worship Him everyday and not just one day a week like Israel did.
The command to keep the Sabbath, one of the 10 commandments was abrogated at the Cross by Jesus. He at that time ratified a new covenant with His own blood. No one is under any part of the covenant given only to Israel. Paul wrote in 2Cor 3:7-11 that the 10 commandments were temporary. The King James version tells us that the 10 were done away. If Paul was correct, we have no law commanding us to observe a day. Do you believe the writings of Paul? If you do, why are you thumping the now defunct Sabbath that was only for Israel? You have a lot of splainin to do.

How about some scripture, we don't worship piecrust. Where did God tell the Israelites to consider gentiles dogs. Why do you reject or ignore scripture and Jesus Christ who speak contrary to your false testimony above? Jesus the Creator, said He made the Sabbath for man, as recorded in the book of Genesis. Why do you reject this testimony? I can provide scriptures from the old covenant pronouncing blessing upon non Jews who would keep God's Sabbath, so why would you say it was only for Jews? Please provide scripture that says the Sabbath was only specifically for the Jews. The Sabbath is God's, not humanities. He created it and calls it His all throughout scripture. Those that wish to be His observe His Sabbath, not their own. Why do you deny this basic truth?

Exo 20:8
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day
is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.Go to, deny what is right in front of your face.

Isa 66:1 Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? 2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. 3 He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations. 4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not......................................................................................
22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another,
and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. 24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.
The Lord has chosen your delusion, the abomination in which you delight. Humanity has rejected the day which God has delighted to give them as a day of rest and reflection as a sign that it is God who sanctifies them or can sanctify anything. They have chosen their own abomination in which they delight and do evil in the sight of the Lord setting up their own traditions in the place of His command. Bringing the work of their own hands as an offering to Him which will be rejected as was Cain's offering.
Eze 8:15 Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these. 16 And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD'S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar,
were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east. 17 Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose. 18 Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.
Go to, deny God's Sabbath, and exalt the Sun-day.
2 Thes 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first,
and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish;
because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Go to, worship at the alter of the man of sin, who set himself up in the temple of God as though he were
God. Worship on the Sun-day which he has given you. Which he and his minions have forced upon many through the laws of fallen humanity. Who do so now, and will continue to do so in the future. This is the delusion which God Himself has chosen for you.
Pope Gregory I (AD 590-604) said :
"Gregory, bishop by the grace of God to his well-beloved sons, the Roman citizens: It has come to me that certain men of perverse spirit have disseminated among you things depraved and opposed to the holy faith, so that they forbid anything to be done on the day of the Sabbath. What shall I call them except preachers of anti-Christ?." Epistles of Gregory I, b.13, epist.1, found in Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers.
The Synod of Laodicea - 343-381 A.D. - furnishes a decree which is quoted by many:
"Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday [Sabbatum is always used for the Sabbath and is translated Saturday in the English edition of Hefele], but shall work on that day; but the Lord's-day they shall especially honor, and as being Christians, shall, if possible, do no work on that day. If, however, they are found Judaizing they shall be shut out from Christ. (Canon 29, Hefele, Vol. 2, p. 316.)
The following is from the CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.
Sunday- fulfillment of the sabbath
2175 Sunday is expressly distinguished from the sabbath which it follows chronologically every week; for Christians its ceremonial observance replaces that of the sabbath. In Christ's Passover, Sunday fulfills the spiritual truth of the Jewish sabbath and announces man's eternal rest in God. For worship under the Law prepared for the mystery of Christ, and what was done there prefigured some aspects of Christ:[107]
Those who lived according to the old order of things have come to a new hope, no longer keeping the sabbath, but the Lord's Day, in which our life is blessed by him and by his death.[108]
2176 The celebration of Sunday observes the moral commandment inscribed by nature in the human heart to render to God an outward, visible, public, and regular worship "as a sign of his universal beneficence to all."[109] Sunday worship fulfills the moral command of the Old Covenant, taking up its rhythm and spirit in the weekly celebration of the Creator and Redeemer of his people.
A day of grace and rest from work
2184 Just as God "rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done,"[121] human life has a rhythm of work and rest. The institution of the Lord's Day helps everyone enjoy adequate rest and leisure to cultivate their familial, cultural, social, and religious lives.[122]
2185 On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are to refrain from engaging in work or activities that hinder the worship owed to God, the joy proper to the Lord's Day, the performance of the works of mercy, and the appropriate relaxation of mind and body.[123] Family needs or important social service can legitimately excuse from the obligation of Sunday rest. The faithful should see to it that legitimate excuses do not lead to habits prejudicial to religion, family life, and health.
The charity of truth seeks holy leisure- the necessity of charity accepts just work.[124]
2186 Those Christians who have leisure should be mindful of their brethren who have the same needs and the same rights, yet cannot rest from work because of poverty and misery. Sunday is traditionally consecrated by Christian piety to good works and humble service of the sick, the infirm, and the elderly. Christians will also sanctify Sunday by devoting time and care to their families and relatives, often difficult to do on other days of the week. Sunday is a time for reflection, silence, cultivation of the mind, and meditation which furthers the growth of the Christian interior life.
2187 Sanctifying Sundays and holy days requires a common effort. Every Christian should avoid making unnecessary demands on others that would hinder them from observing the Lord's Day. Traditional activities (sport, restaurants, etc.), and social necessities (public services, etc.), require some people to work on Sundays, but everyone should still take care to set aside sufficient time for leisure. With temperance and charity the faithful will see to it that they avoid the excesses and violence sometimes associated with popular leisure activities. In spite of economic constraints, public authorities should ensure citizens a time intended for rest and divine worship. Employers have a similar obligation toward their employees.
2188 In respecting religious liberty and the common good of all, Christians should seek recognition of Sundays and the Church's holy days as legal holidays. They have to give everyone a public example of prayer, respect, and joy and defend their traditions as a precious contribution to the spiritual life of society. If a country's legislation or other reasons require work on Sunday, the day should nevertheless be lived as the day of our deliverance which lets us share in this "festal gathering," this "assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven."[125]
IN BRIEF
2189 "Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Deut 5:12). "The seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord" (Ex 31:15).
2190 The sabbath, which represented the completion of the first creation, has been replaced by Sunday which recalls the new creation inaugurated by the Resurrection of Christ.
2191 The Church celebrates the day of Christ's Resurrection on the "eighth day," Sunday, which is rightly called the Lord's Day (cf. SC 106).
2192 "Sunday . . . is to be observed as the foremost holy day of obligation in the universal Church" (CIC, can. 1246 # 1). "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass" (CIC, can. 1247).
2193 "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound . . . to abstain from those labors and business concerns which impede the worship to be rendered to God, the joy which is proper to the Lord's Day, or the proper relaxation of mind and body" (CIC, can. 1247).
2194 The institution of Sunday helps all "to be allowed sufficient rest and leisure to cultivate their amilial, cultural, social, and religious lives" (GS 67 # 3).
2195 Every Christian should avoid making unnecessary demands on others that would hinder them from observing the Lord's Day.
The following quotes are from the APOSTOLIC LETTER DIES DOMINI by John Paul II
Chap. 1
8.............The People of God are called to enter into this same rest by persevering in Christ's example of filial obedience (cf. Heb 4:3-16). In order to grasp fully the meaning of Sunday, therefore, we must re-read the great story of creation and deepen our understanding of the theology of the "Sabbath".
13. The Sabbath precept, which in the first Covenant prepares for the Sunday of the new and eternal Covenant, is therefore rooted in the depths of God's plan. This is why, unlike many other precepts, it is set not within the context of strictly cultic stipulations but within the Decalogue, the "ten words" which represent the very pillars of the moral life inscribed on the human heart.
14. In the first place, therefore, Sunday is the day of rest because it is the day "blessed" by God and "made holy" by him, set apart from the other days to be, among all of them, "the Lord's Day".
18..............In the light of this mystery, the meaning of the Old Testament precept concerning the Lord's Day is recovered, perfected and fully revealed in the glory which shines on the face of the Risen Christ (cf. 2 Cor 4:6). We move from the "Sabbath" to the "first day after the Sabbath", from the seventh day to the first day: the dies Domini becomes the dies Christi!
Chap.2
23. It was this newness which the catechesis of the first centuries stressed as it sought to show the prominence of Sunday relative to the Jewish Sabbath. It was on the Sabbath that the Jewish people had to gather in the synagogue and to rest in the way prescribed by the Law. The Apostles, and in particular Saint Paul, continued initially to attend the synagogue so that there they might proclaim Jesus Christ, commenting upon "the words of the prophets which are read every Sabbath" (Acts 13:27). Some communities observed the Sabbath while also celebrating Sunday. Soon, however, the two days began to be distinguished ever more clearly, in reaction chiefly to the insistence of those Christians whose origins in Judaism made them inclined to maintain the obligation of the old Law.
Chap.4
59....................More than a "replacement" for the Sabbath, therefore, Sunday is its fulfilment, and in a certain sense its extension and full expression in the ordered unfolding of the history of salvation, which reaches its culmination in Christ.
62. It is the duty of Christians therefore to remember that, although the practices of the Jewish Sabbath are gone, surpassed as they are by the "fulfilment" which Sunday brings, the underlying reasons for keeping "the Lord's Day" holy — inscribed solemnly in the Ten Commandments — remain valid, though they need to be reinterpreted in the light of the theology and spirituality of Sunday: "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. Six days you shall labour, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. Then you shall do no work, you, or your son, or your daughter, or your servant, or your maid, or your ox, or your ass, or any of your beasts, or the foreigner within your gates, that your servant and maid may rest as well as you. You shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded that you keep the Sabbath day" (Dt 5:12-15). Here the Sabbath observance is closely linked with the liberation which God accomplished for his people.
63. Christ came to accomplish a new "exodus", to restore freedom to the oppressed. He performed many healings on the Sabbath (cf. Mt 12:9-14 and parallels), certainly not to violate the Lord's Day, but to reveal its full meaning: "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath" (Mk 2:27). Opposing the excessively legalistic interpretation of some of his contemporaries, and developing the true meaning of the biblical Sabbath, Jesus, as "Lord of the Sabbath" (Mk 2:28), restores to the Sabbath observance its liberating character, carefully safeguarding the rights of God and the rights of man. This is why Christians, called as they are to proclaim the liberation won by the blood of Christ, felt that they had the authority to transfer the meaning of the Sabbath to the day of the Resurrection. The Passover of Christ has in fact liberated man from a slavery more radical than any weighing upon an oppressed people — the slavery of sin, which alienates man from God, and alienates man from himself and from others, constantly sowing within history the seeds of evil and violence.

Why did God close his only everlasting Covenant of grace not with all mankind and why is there no history of any other people on earth with whom He has made it except the children of Israel? Bright spark...
Hobie:
The Sabbath is a sign of creative and redeeming power, it points to God as the source of life and knowledge; it recalls Creation and God making man in His own image, and thus witnesses to God's purpose to re-create us in His own image. The Sabbath of the Lord bears His name and seal and is the day above all others when we should acquaint ourselves with God through His works of Creation, communing with God and reading and sharing His word.
Where have you seen the Scriptures which say this with all the <it> and <we> and <man> and <ourselves> Subjects; or all the Verbs and Predicates of these Subjects?
This, WHILE you observe yourself, <The Sabbath
of the Lord bears
His name and seal and is the day above all others when we should acquaint ourselves
with God through His works>?
And WHY, <His works of Creation> or <through His works of Creation, communing with God> BUT NOT God's works of his Rest through and in and for the sake OF JESUS CHRIST THE SAVIOUR?
ALREADY IN GENESIS!BECAUSE IT IS NOT MRS E.G. WHITE'S THEOLOGY!
Amo: #4
Now please tell me straight, Do you tell this forum myself included THIS, FOR GOD'S TRUTH, OR THE DEVIL'S LIE?
The only Scripture in the NT which implies Jesus' actual, historical, Resurrection or "Coming" from death and the grave "in the flesh", is found in the Gospel of Matthew.
When I started out with my study of Matthew 28:1 forty eight years ago, the Commentaries used to speak of 'the (one) time phrase' in Matthew 28:1. Samuelli Bacchiocchi wrote of 'the second time phrase in Matthew 28:1'.
I cannot remember that anyone ever distinguished a third or fourth 'time phrase' in 'the passage'.
And no one for certain ever extended 'the passage' further than 28:1; verses 2 to 4 contained no time-indications pertaining anything which happened in 'the passage' as far as anyone cared.
Later on I came across a few people who started 'the passage' before 28:1 by blending 27:66 in with 28:1, all in unsuccessful attempts to change 28:1 saying "On / In the Sabbath towards the First Day" into saying 'after the Sabbath on the First Day of the week'.
But no one tried to read the things in and between chapter 27 and before verse 4 in chapter 28 which "the angel" of 28:5 "explained to the women". Rather it seemed to me everyone tried to AVOID the existing association, relevance and reference! Which association and relevance of and reference to facts of revealed Truth, is easy to distinguish by simply comparing Matthew with the other Gospels and see the things in Matthew which the other Gospels do not mention.
Those things begin where Matthew mentions
the earthquake when Jesus died;
paralleled /contrasted with
the great earthquake which occurred when Jesus rose;
the graves which opened when Jesus died;
paralleled / contrasted with
the dead that went out of their graves after Jesus had raised;
the observation by the guards / soldiers when Jesus died;
paralleled / contrasted with
like dead unconscious guards / soldiers while Jesus rose.
Many women were there beholding the Crucifixion;
paralleled / contrasted with
When even was come there came Joseph and begged the body...
paralleled / contrasted with after the Burial
There was Mary Magdalene and the other Mary sitting over against the sepulchre;
and
Joseph rolled a stone to the door of the sepulchre and departed...
paralleled / contrasted with
Now the next day that followed the Preparation
the Jews met with Pilate and demanded of him to command
the sepulchre be made sure FOR THE THIRD DAY.
Only Matthew has this recorded 28:5 ...the angel EXPLAINED to the women:
'De...' "But / nevertheless / despite" the devil and the unbelievers' plans and measures
"the angel of the Lord descending from heaven cast the stone from the grave..." AND JESUS ROSE "... IN THE FULLNESS OF THE SABBATH" – 'Opse...' - 'Etsem Yom' – '...tehi epiphohskousehi SABBATOHN' .. "THE THIRD DAY according to the Scriptures" God's Written Word about the Passover of Yahweh.
Who or what thinks any man or church or power or principality, is it or he to try to change THIS SELFSAME DAY OF THE LORD GOD HIS HOLY "SABBATH DAY" AND "THIRD DAY" "SELFSAME WHOLE BONE-ESSENTIAL DAY" OF THE "THREE DAYS THICK DARKNESS" OF JESUS' LAST SUFFERING, CRUCIFIXION, DEATH, BURIAL AND RESURRECTION?
Hobie: #
The Sabbath is a sign of creative and redeeming power, it points to God as the source of life and knowledge; it recalls Creation and God making man in His own image, and thus witnesses to God's purpose to re-create us in His own image.
The Sabbath is a sign of God's Redeeming Power, it points to Jesus' Resurrection as the source of Life and Redemption. It recalls Creation and the Fall, and in itself is a record of God as it were re-making man in His own image and Redeeming him from the grave and death. Thus God spake of the Sabbath as it witnesses to His Eternal Purpose in Jesus Christ to re-create us in His own image even the image of his Own dear Son our Lord and God our Saviour.
But for one moment admit it? NO SDA, NOR SUNDAYDARIAN DARE or he shall have to admit rational, human, MISTAKE. Rather to hell with the pest who forces them to see themselves a little bit in their own heart.
So there are 5 - five, and more, ADVERBIAL 'time phrases in the passage'...
so that JESUS ROSE...
1) 'tehi epaurion hehtis estin meta tehn Paraskeuehn' - "the day / morning after the Preparation"
= 2) 'meta treis hehmeras .. heohs tehs tritehs hehmeras' - "the third day" = 'Etsem Yom'
= 3) 'Opse de' - "IN THE FULLNESS" = 'Etsem Yom'
= 4) 'tehi epiphohskousehi' - "being in the mid-afternoon daylight" = 'Etsem Yom'
= 5) 'SABBATOHN' - "of / in (the very selfsame full daylight) THE SABBATH" = 'Etsem Yom'
= 6) 'eis Mian sabbatohn' - "as daylight began inclining towards / against / before the First Day of the week" : ON, not after, Etsem Yom!

Here we have another example of not reading comments properly. I did not say they were told by God to consider gentiles dogs, they just did. Matt 15:21-28. Mark 7:28-28. Jewish culture of that time saw dogs as treacherous and dangerous, not like they are now in Western society, as members of the family. Gentiles were also seen as treacherous and dangerous.
Amo. Amo. Amo. Seems to be you worship the sabbath. You need to study the Bible contextually, not your "here a little, there a little" method. Did you know that is part of a curse?
The old covenant, of which the sabbath was the sign was given ONLY to Israel. Israel is the only nation that God rescued from slavery in Egypt. Surely you don't need the scripture for that. That covenant is now obsolete (Heb 8:13).
Are you also aware that the penalty for a gentile keeping the sabbath is death according to Jewish tradition?
: Amo Sun Jun 30, 2019 - 12:21:29
Ahh yes, the bile according to Beam. You are filled with twisted facts and misinformation as usual. Seventh Day Baptists introduced the Sabbath to Adventists,
Where did I say that Adventists introduced the Sabbath? You are so quick to tell us that I twist the facts and give misinformation and then proceed with something not relevant or not informing us where I gave twisted facts. You always avoid almost all the questions I ever ask, Is it because of your inability?
and it was observed by millions of Christians long before this. EGW did not invent seventh day Sabbath observance by professed Christians.
My post said nothing about others observing Sabbath nor did I indicate that Ellen invented it. Ellen added to scripture thoughts that are not in the least way relevant to what God intended. She did so in the Genesis account of God's rest on the day after He created all that He did. Of course, you will not debate that fact. You are wise enough to know you can't win.
Yes we do know that one of the reasons God attributed to the observance of His Sabbath was their deliverance from slavery in Egypt. They were delivered from Egyptian slavery that they might enter into God's rest.
According to Hebrews 4, they never did enter God's rest. Here again, instead of staying on the original thought you have to digress with off the topic matter. I am glad that you know the reason for God giving the Sabbath to the Israelites.
4 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.[a] 3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
'So I declared on oath in my anger,
"They shall never enter my rest."'
And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. 4 For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: 'On the seventh day God rested from all his works.'[c] 5 And again in the passage above he says, 'They shall never enter my rest.'
This in no way shape or form detracts from the other reason God specifically stated as the reason He wanted Israel to observe His Sabbath which He established at creation. You know, the one you choose to ignore and pretend doesn't exist because it does not support your views. By the way, it is a very dangerous thing to ignore scripture for any reason.
There you go again. Will you ever learn not to write things that are not true. Why do I have to defend myself with your ignorant accusations?
Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Go to, deny what is right in front of your face.
I do not deny that God gave the Sabbath day to Israel. The Sabbath was a part of the words of the covenant. The covenant was replaced with the new and better covenant, the one most of us serve, the one with better promises. The covenant given to Israel with its Sabbath command was for them and them only and is now a defunct covenant.
Mk 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Go to, deny the testimony of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ right in front of your face. You think that at the end of literally speaking everything into existence, God speaking the seventh day Sabbath into existence in front of humanity whom He just created, they didn't hear Him or honor the day He blessed before them, and for them?
If the Sabbath was given for all mankind why isn't all mankind aware of it? That is a question Amo. Can you answer it?
So He created and established it, just to exist without any acknowledgment or observance for the first two thousand years of earth's history, is that correct?
Only if one is programmed into believing otherwise. There is no scripture indicating that anyone observed it until after the crossing the Red Sea
Do you think God does this kind of thing often? Does He create and establish things which have no purpose or function? What sense does this make, but to those trying to deny any purpose or function for God's creation?
Did God create the Sabbath? He created everything in six days and rested from all He created on the following day.
4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not
22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. 24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.
Ah yes, Is 66 where the saved will go forth from worshipping God to the place where all the transgressors are burning. Lovely thought and then there is Is 65 where, in the new Earth, man will live to be well over 100 and babies won't die at birth. So much for eternal life and celibacy. Explain that.
The Lord has chosen your delusion, the abomination in which you delight. Humanity has rejected the day which God has delighted to give them as a day of rest and reflection as a sign that it is God who sanctifies them or can sanctify anything.
Absolutely a strawman argument Amo. Humanity was never given a special day. Another one of your deceptions.
They have chosen their own abomination in which they delight and do evil in the sight of the Lord setting up their own traditions in the place of His command. Bringing the work of their own hands as an offering to Him which will be rejected as Cain's offering was.
Reading Ellen again?
Eze 8:15 Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these. 16 And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD'S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.

Beam to Hobie - (emphasis mine)
Hi Hobie, I presume your Genesis account of God resting on the day after all He created and then setting it apart for family use didn't really come from any part of the Holy Writ. My being a SDA for many years it was drilled into me just what you wrote. I call it SDA embellishment and its author Ellen White was responsible for adding this thought.
Sure looks like you are saying God setting aside the Sabbath for humanity at creation originated with EGW. Adam and Eve were of course the first family, and they were present when God blessed and sanctified the seventh day. Are you saying you think EGW or SDA's came up with this? Do you think we were the first Sabbath keepers believe this? If not, what were you saying?
You also said in the same post to Hobie -
The command to keep the Sabbath, one of the 10 commandments was abrogated at the Cross by Jesus.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD,
that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: 33
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
The new covenant is with the house of Israel and Judah. Are you of the house of Israel or Judah? If not, then the new covenant is not for you. If so, then you should keep God's commandments and His Sabbath which were given to Israel. Nevertheless, as already pointed out, Christ made the Sabbath for man 2000 years before there ever was a Jew, not the Jews only. God also pronounced a blessing upon all who would keep His Sabbath during the old covenant as well. You already know all of this, you just choose to ignore it and reject God's Sabbath for His people. So be it.

I have and do debate that theory. I find your conclusion that God was speaking to Himself only when He Blessed and sanctified the seventh day at creation ridiculous. He just finished creating the world and humanity, do you think those who observed this and those just created were not attentive to what God said before them? If you think when God speaks no one listens, then you do not know God. Regardless of what you or the whole world thinks, God Blessed and sanctified the seventh day at creation and it has been blessed and sanctified ever since. No human being, nor all human beings combined can change this or anything God has established. All who attempt to do so, do so at their own peril.
According to Hebrews 4, they never did enter God's rest. Here again, instead of staying on the original thought you have to digress with off the topic matter. I am glad that you know the reason for God giving the Sabbath to the Israelites.

Heb 3:16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Some of them did not enter His rest because of unbelief. The rest did because they believed and therefore obeyed God. The same warning is given to us. God's seventh day Sabbath is a sign of entering into that rest.

The covenant given to Israel with its Sabbath command was for them and them only and is now a defunct covenant.
The new covenant was and is for Israel as I have already shown you from scripture. You preach a false gospel of two new covenants, one for Israel and another for Gentiles, separating that which God has made one in Christ Jesus. You deny that God gave the Sabbath to humanity at creation. The fourth commandment specifically instructs Israel to remember and keep it because God established it at creation. I am not the ignorant one here. You are in denial of God's entire purpose in establishing the Sabbath. This you must do because you reject His authority regarding it, and the authority of His Son Jesus Christ who conclusively stated that He did not come to abolish the very law you defiantly claim He did cone to abolish. So be it.
Beam -

More ignorance. Was the gospel given for all mankind Beam? Of course it was, then according to your own ignorant mentality, why doesn't every know it? Get a grip beam. Deception is widespread in this world, thus must the gospel be preached to every kindred, nation, and tongue. Deception was widespread after the fall as well. So widespread, and people were so willingly and otherwise ignorant of God that He destroyed them all by a flood to start over again. So the world speeds toward its conclusion once again due to ignorance, ignorance that you and many others are peddling as truth. God's Sabbath has been largely forgotten once again, according to satanic deception. The results will be the same as last time, only the next judgment will be by fire.

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.Yes, God created the seventh day Sabbath by blessing, sanctifying, and making it hallow.
Mar 2:27 And he said unto them,
The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. The Sabbath was made for man at creation by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is Lord of the sabbath.

No. Off topic. Explain it to yourself, or reject or ignore it, as you do other scriptures.

You are telling us that if we choose to worship on Sunday we are worshipping at the altar of the devil? That is nothing but a bunch of drivel concocted by the SDA church and of course you.
I'm telling you that you preach a false gospel which states that Christ came to abolish the law, most specifically the fourth commandment. That there is no instruction from scripture to worship God on the first day of the week. That observance of the day is a man made tradition, and when humanity forces it upon societies through civil legislation they sin against God and humanity. All who will disregard the law of God, while forcing or supporting the force of human tradition upon all by law, will burn in the lake of fire.
Mat 15:3 But he answered and said unto them,
Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. 5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; 6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. 7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.Mar 7:6 He answered and said unto them,
Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9 And he said unto them,
Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. Why will you reject the commandment of God that you may keep the tradition of man? Why will you attack those who wish to keep the commandment of God, but support those who would force human tradition upon all by observing their tradition and remaining silent about this sin? Is it not because you are deceived?

Are you also aware that the penalty for a gentile keeping the sabbath is death according to Jewish tradition?
piecrust, piecrust, piecrust. I am aware of your ignorance of scripture, while trying to imply I am the one ignorant of the same. The new covenant is with Israel. If you are not of Israel, you are not of God. The new covenant Israel is freed from the slavery of sin in Christ Jesus. Jesus condemned Jewish tradition when it contradicted the commandments or word of God. God pronounced a blessing upon all who would keep His Sabbath even during the old covenant. All of God's covenants are only with His people of course. He does not force Himself on anyone.
I don't study here a little there a little, nor do I share scripture in that manner. I share scripture from as many different places as possible concerning a subject, that the whole of scripture on the matter might be taken into account. Nor do I chop scriptures in half or take them out of context to support my views.
Isa 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

For two reasons.
First that all the world being so deceived by it, wonders after the antichrist beast- and false prophet pope because of the BIBLE he gives them for the Word of God which he CORRUPTED to the effect at specifically those places bearing on the unbreakable relation between the Sabbath and God's works through Jesus Christ for to give sinners "His Own Rest".
Second for no other reason than that virtually all churches, again the Roman Catholic antichrist beast- and false prophet pope leading, are worshippers of FREE WILL.
Why THESE TWO?
Because these two motives are the cause and reason of the essence for a Sunday RESURRECTION and for the HATE for God's Sabbath Day "according to Scripture the third day Christ ROSE FROM THE DEAD".
FRAUDULENT SCRIPTURE AND WILL WORSHIP.

Hobie is so intent on marketing the sabbath to those for whom it was never given that he neglects to supply the scriptures that tell who it was really given to and the reason for which it was given.
Here are a few verses that begin to tell the real story that Hobie, am0 and Gerhard neglect to their own credibility detriment.
Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the Lord.
Exodus 19:4-6,9
And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage....
Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof: But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard. Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.
Exodus 20:1-2,23:9-12
Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

Rom 3:19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law:
that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. 29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. 31
Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.The true gospel establishes the law, the false gospel abolishes it.

Theology has flourished only at times when theologians have returned to Scripture and, in prayer, have sought Christ in it. Theology "loses its leaf and begins its winter sleep" (Kuyper) when dreams and claims of <the holy spirit> silence earnest, sober and honest dealing with the Scriptures.
Run with patience the race that is set before us looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Hebrews 12:1–2.
