You do err not knowing the scriptures and know how to rightly divide them.
: JESUS CHRISTMatthew 22:29~"Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God."
The question that should be asked is:
When did Paul
received the KNOWLEDGE he had the Spirit of God indwelling him. Also, when did the Spirit of God take up His abode
IN PAUL?
And 1 Cor 12:3 answers that question .

Did Paul receive the Holy Spirit?

Did Paul receive the Holy Spirit?
Yes.
And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. (Act 9:17-18)

That an interesting scripture~
"mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost" for SURE Paul was going to receive his sight
immediately ~being FILLED with the Holy Ghost is a WORK which believers must CONSTANTLY labor to be filled with the Spirit, which is done by walking in the Spirit and taking heed to God's commandments!
The Pentecostals and the Faith movement among the Pentecostals have a
"short-cut" for one to be filled with the Spirit, with evidence of
"speaking in an unknown tongue"~yet NOWHERE in the epistles is a lesson given whereby the apostles instructed NT believers to be filled with the Spirit
other than laboring to keep God's commandments of living a holy life exhibiting the life of Jesus Christ THROUGH US.
Galatians 5:14-25~"For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit (notice what is NOT mention......."UNKNOWN TONGUES"! that's a short-cut of being FILLED with the Spirit invented by the Pentecostals ~RB) is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's (or Spirit-filled~RB) have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
All of God's children said ~AMEN, and AMEN!
Being filled with the Spirit is WORK, and does not come without laboring in keeping God's commandments done so by walking in love for God and man.

I have never heard anyone call it a work. Where are you getting that?
The Bible indicates that God bestows the Spirit as a seal on believers and an earnest on our inheritance (Eph 1). That makes it an act of God; not man.
As for
evidence of the Spirit, this verse exists:
1Co 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
I think if you read the whole chapter, you will find that the point is that there are diverse manifestations of the Spirit. Tongues is one of them, not the ONLY one, and in fact is among the least important gifts. Part of Paul's purpose in writing the book is to tell the Corinthians to stop abusing tongues, and focus on the "best gifts."

Was that for the OP or me?
Actually neither of us used either of those words. ::lookaround::

No, not precisely. Red said this:

It was a general statement to everyone.
"Filled" is Spirit Within. But the gifts (including tongues) are a matter of Spirit Upon.

It is probably better to think of the different roles of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers as the indwelling Holy Spirit and the empowering Holy Spirit. All who believe, repent and are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ receive the indwelling (the gift of) the Holy Spirit. Only a special few ever received the empowering Holy Spirit. Paul, received the indwelling Holy Spirit upon being baptized by Ananias in Damascus three days after having encountered Jesus on his travel to Damascus (Acts 9:1-18). We are not told when Paul received the empowering Holy Spirit, but it seems likely that occurred some time after his conversion in Damascus and during his journey to Arabia and return to Damascus (Gal 1:11-24).

And in Acts 13:9 reads But Saul , the one called Paul , having been filled HOLY SPIRIT .
Please notice that the WORD WITH is NOT in the Greek text .
Please notice the DEFINITE ARTICLE , ORD " THE " is not before the words HOLY SPIRIT .
The bible is seen two ways !!
#1 The Holy Spirit !!
#2 by , THE HOLY SPIRIT !!
Why is it written 2 different ways ??
