Wiley

I sent Beverly PM as soon as I heard about the floods down there but haven't heard anything.  I also posted about this in the Prayer Request section.

Amen, Bob.

A group of kids from my church just got back from Camp Bandina today. It's along the Medina River near Bandera. They were flooded out and had to be evacuated emergently, but no one was injured.

May the God of all mercy surround and protect Beverly and her family. Lord, be with all your children endangered in Central and South Texas. Hear their cries as you did those of David:

[!--QuoteBegin--][/span]

Quote

[!--QuoteEBegin--]Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. I sink in the miry depths where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. -- Psalm 69:1-3
Father, times like these remind us how much we really depend on you for everything. We have no where else to turn for help, Lord. Please hear from the heavens, and respond to the needs of our sister.

just to let you all know that our house was spared. Even the fish, although the river lapped at the retaining wall for a couple of days! Half a foot more (vertically)  might have taken out the wall, and another foot would have put the river in the pool and fish pond. The house is less than 10 feet above that.

We had 15 inches rain in New Braunfels from Sat 6/30 through Fri 7/5, but some places around here had as much as 45 inches. The Guadelupe empties into Canyon Lake, and this is the first time in the lake's 40 years that water went over the spillway.

The river rose sort of fast on Friday and didn't crest (at 30 feet over the banks) until late Saturday afternoon, but we had all day Thursday and Friday to tie things down, move them higher in the yard, and empty the first floor of the house.

In 1998, we had 20 inches in 12 hours and only had two hours to move what we could. The river went straight up and then down in less than 5 hours and the lake held the excess up stream.  This time, rain in Kerrville and Comfort area was just too much. YOu can imagine over a year's worth of rain in less than a week!

We had plenty of warning, starting with a call early on 7/4, and had 2 days to do what turned out to be deep cleaning! And, we were without internet access at home until some time this afternoon.
I'm convinced all your prayers worked, there's no other explanation for it stopping when it did.
I want everyone to know that Larry and  I prayed together at 6 PM Friday nite, when Booty's church prays in Venezuela.

As soon as I can get Yahoo to work, I'll post some pictures from today and yesterday, after the waters started receding. I have some film from Fri, but no digital pictures at the height of the flood.  (The digital camera somehow got hidden, I mean packed away, early on.)

Thank you for your prayers and concerns. I can't explain how much it means.

but I'd never imply that I'm more deserving (or even have any understanding of "deserving") than those whose houses flooded or washed away (some for the second time in 4 years).  I certainly didn't think that or didn't read it in your post

There has to be a purpose, and sometimes the purpose is just to maintain the laws of Physics, and keep the  Universe knit together, I think.  That is probably as good an answer as any.  If we understood everything God did or allowed we wouldn't need Him.  One thing we know for sure is the fact that we do need Him.

(But, I don't think staring at the water level is what saved my fish - it was prayer!!! And no one is going to shake me on this belief! Somehow, the laws of physics weren't disturbed by that extra foot)  God is at work and talking with Him helps.
Thanks Beverly.  Appreciate your thoughts.

Beverly, welcome back, may God be praised for getting you and your family through this. I pray for those who had losses to be helped as well.

Hi, Beverly! Could be me (my computer, that is) because it has been whacky today -- felt like instead of a 56K modem (archaic enough!), I've been connected with a 2K one! I know for sure that some emails aren't getting through to me today.
But anyhoo, I just tried going to that link to your new photos and got: <<The File You Are Looking For Is Inaccessible.

Please sign in and try again or check with the owner of the file.>>
Went back to your earlier photos link, and see those but don't see a way to get to any newly posted ones. So I am checking with the owner! That's you! LOL

Gotta run drop the 16 year old off at the DMBand concert ...

YAHOO always says the same thing about your pictures - "The File You Are Looking For Is Inaccessible.

Please sign in and try again or check with the owner of the file."

I've tried numerous times to take a look at the pictures.  Thanks for trying to give us a look.

Has anyone heard from Beverly Nuckols since the flood waters hit New Braunfels?  She lives in New Braunfels.

From an MSNBC story:
"Floodwaters poured down a narrow canyon and into the small city of New Braunfels, 30 miles northeast of San Antonio. The murky, roiling water was filled with debris — huge tree trunks, empty tires and inner tubes, even a six-foot propane tank dancing back and forth in the swirling current.
Sticking out of the water were the tops of home. In some places, entire homes floated by stunned bystanders."

We are getting pretty good coverage on our local TV stations of the damage being done.

The Hill Country has been hard hit by extremly heavy rain fall and major flooding.  A lake dam at Medina (home to the Medina Childrens Home) is on the verge of failing and the local sheriff has said he expects it to fail if they get very much more rain.  I don't know exactly where the home is located in relation to the dam and other flooding. Towns down river from the dam are being evacuated.

We need to keep the residents of these areas in our prayers.  There is more rain predicted for the remainder of the week for the Texas Hill Country all the way up into West Texas.

Thank you, especially, Bill and Janine!

And let's give a prayer for the others who lost so much. Good can come out of even this evil!

Beverly

Great to hear from you.  Our neighbors in that part of Texas who were not spared are still in our prayers.  And yes we pray that God will bring good out of this tragic situation.  We know He will but it helps us if we talk with Him about it.

Bill,
That's a tough point: what of those who weren't spared? I'll take my blessings where I get them, but I'd never imply that I'm more deserving (or even have any understanding of "deserving") than those whose houses flooded or washed away (some for the second time in 4 years).

Beverly,

Glad to hear from you.  Some of the pictures we were getting up here were pretty bad----was getting pretty concerned.  I'll be looking forward to seeing those photos, especially since I have been in WX chasing and Civil Defense/Volunteer Fireman for a number of years.  We've only had light rain up here (7 inches last week :) )!  This has really been a wierd 1st week of July.

God bless.

Y'all have no idea how much your kindness means. Thank you.

Here's the pictures that we took Sunday and Saturday, after the waters started to go down (and we found the pile of sheets with the camera in them.)
We're on the Guadelupe, and on the inside of a curve. Our side is higher than the opposite, so the force  and houses mostly went through the channel and hit the trees on the other side more than ours. We saw most of a house -roof and one story, anyway - go past Sunday afternoon, at it did hit and break down a 5 foot diameter cypress.

http://photos.yahoo.com/bc.....view=t (http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/hocndoc/lst?.dir=/My+Photos&.src=ph&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/hocndoc/vwp%3f.dir=/My%2bPhotos%26.dnm=DSC00643.jpg%26.src=ph&.view=t)

The neighbor's house is actually two big lots away - about a quarter mile. We don't usually see it. Rememer - the actual river is usually between the rows of trees, and their feet are usually dry - 2 or 3 feet above the water level downstream  to over 10 feet above the water at the up stream side.

Yahoo is not very reliable for the last few days.
Sometimes it works and some times not.
Sorry.
