: Advice on dating a coworker
: anonymous25 Sun Jan 04, 2026 - 12:54:55
Hello everyone. So i feel that I am starting to have feelings for a supervisor on my job.We worked together for 3 years but started to work more closely together this past year. I feel he might have feelings as well.I don't know if there is any policy against dating coworkers because there is a supervisor coworker relationship there already and its been going on since before i worked there. What do you guys think about this? Should I go for it or just let it go?

Just my opinion.  DON'T

If it falls apart, someone will have to find a new job. And you only said there may be something, right?

Relationships with a work associate are almost always a no-win situation unless the planets perfectly align.

If this person is in a position superior to you, that compounds the potential conflicts and bad outcomes.  This factor alone will affect the behavior of all the other work associates around you and usually not in a good way.

If the relationship develops and lasts long term, you will always be viewed as a teacher's pet by other workers.  If the relationship turns sour you open yourself up to punishment from the other party, and bad feelings will exist for a long time.

If you want to create a bad work environment, having a relationship with a co-worker, especial one in a position above you will get the job done.  It will be the gift that keeps on giving for a long time.  And not in a good way.

If your supervisor would date you while you work together he is a moron.

Sexual harassment HR policies make it so he would have too much to lose.

Are you both single? Even if you are, it's probably not a good idea for many reasons as listed above - especially if either of you lose your job over it -  but it's your decision to pursue it or not.

Not long ago, I read an article that listed stats (who knows if they're accurate) about workplace romances. About 80% of affairs begin in the workplace. Also, about 25% of workers interviewed admit they've been unfaithful to their spouses with someone from their workplace. So it sounds like a lot of people are messing around with people from their workplace. I guess that's not too surprising since they're with fellow employees more than their own spouses.
