How many televisions do you have?
Big one in the family room. One in my and wife's bedroom. One in the guestroom, and one for the boys that is used only for video games, movies, dvd's.
When I was a kid we had one, it got three channels, and I was the "remote". When my brother and I got a 12 inch B&W for our bedroom for Christmas one year, we thought we were rich and fancy.
OD
Just wondering, why do you ask?
(Actually I stopped and counted and am too embarrassed to put down the number. It's ridiculous!)
One in our family room, one that is hardly watched in our bedroom, but mostly for local news, and one in my computer room for my Grand to only watch Blue, Elmo, or Veggie Tales videos on.
I rarely watch any of them. My Hubby is clicker King. :;):
4 in the house and one in my office at the church across the street. And I won't make any type of defense.
Just the one. Sometimes that is too many!
Two actually connected and functional. I didn't count the three in various stages of dysfunction.
Two, one upstairs and one downstairs.
Okay, Okay! We have one in the den that is used for family viewing. One downstairs in the basement that I mostly use to play my videotape when I do yoga. One in our bedroom that my husband watches while I read at bedtime. And one in my son's room that is never used anymore, because he's away at college. So, in a family of only 2 people, we have 4 TV's.
(My husband has been campaigning to get a big-screen to watch football on and can't understand why I don't think we need it! :D )
One more would only be a 25% increase, Connie.
SO, you're taking his side, are you?! :D
It's interesting that no one has chosen "zero" yet.

It's well worth the "investment." I got one a year ago and it is wonderful for football, especially in HD.

Of course!

Seriously, anyone try to get rid of a defective set recently? I found one place in the next county that may take it if I pay them. :destroyingcomputer:

You, too?! I'm clearly outnumbered here. :(
Finally, something I can agree with Barry about.
[by the way, in the total should I count the ones that are broken and replaced but not thrown out and the ones that my kids are "storing" at my house?]
Counting only the ones that are useful, three. [Kithchen, Computer Room, and Bedroom]
A wide-screen HD type
a small color tv/video combo in the bedroom
two of those little combination tv/radio jobs
I notice nobody has voted zero yet, though I'm sure there must be one or two on this forum who have none.
I remember from a communications class at Harding in the early eighties the statistic that more American homes had televisions than indoor plumbing. Of course, a TV is easier to install, but Americans seem to consider it a necessity.
There are some people I know of living near me that have a tv but no indoor plumbing. And there were 5 daughters in the house at one time . . .
Is indoor plumbing really a necessity? It is my opinion that most people in the world live without it.
Four, but we also have one in the SUV.
I have one tv, but I have a tv card in my computer.
So you watch television on your computer?

Good point... However, I don't think that if I take it seriously, my neighbors would be too happy.
I voted "one" but I guess technically we have three. We only use one, really, the one in our living room. We have a 21" in the garage waiting for the yard sale we'll be having soon (it's been out there for a year -- I hope it still works) and we have one in the van, though we only use that one on long trips (maybe once every 2-3 months).
We're actually taking a TV fast this summer. We waited for all our shows to end (just "Lost", "Alias" and "The Amazing Race") and we've sworn to no regular TV viewing until October (or whenever "Lost" starts back up again). We'll watch our movies, maybe two a week, and the occasional educational Video or DVD we'll put on for the kids' schooling, but beyond that, no, no, no TV. So far it's amazing how much longer the days seem (not that we watched that much anyway), how well behaved the kids are ('cause THEY watched waaaaaay too much TV) and how much happier our family is with books, books on CD, family games and reading aloud to each other. It's an amazingly bonding family experience! :-)
I think television fasts are great! I think maybe I need to do a computer fast at times as well.

Agreed. We did one last year and found it not only spiritually beneficial, but also found that we got more done during the day, and actually ended up getting to sleep earlier every night...
Same thing happens when my husband and I take a TV fast. And, we spend more time in actual conversation with each other, too.
Well, we have the big screen in the living room, there is one in our bedroom, and the kids each have one in their room. My son's can only play his gamecube, and my daughter actually has cable. Although I would love to have that turned off in her room. But my husband hooked it up so that she could watch TV in her room. I don't like it because I can't see what she is watching. Which, more than likely is the Disney Channel. Her fav. show is Raven. It's an ok show, better than most that are out there these days.

A friend went with his wife and daughters to the annual family camp at Manatawny, near Reading, PA. His five-year-old daughter aftward said it was generally fun, but she was shocked that they didn't have televisions in the cabins.
I heard of a family once that was so poor the baby had to sleep in the box the new TV came in.
We have six or more tvs.

We've the one -- maybe a 21" one? -- no cable or antenna, though, we use it to watch DVDs.
I think we still have the little tiny 6" TV/Radio we got from the bank in its original box. I oughta pull it out and get batteries, we might need the radio part during the hurricanes. I do have one of those tiny ones on my desk at work, but I only use the radio part. The nice long antenna is needed for the bad reception in my building.
Janine, that TV/radio might bea collectors item by now.

This is such an interesting thread. I think the TV fast is a great idea. I've never tried it. That would be really hard during football season! Hmmm....
We have five. I hadn't stopped to count until I was reading this.
We finished our basement last spring. One of our elders is a remodeler. We installed a home theater with the pull down movie screen (about 80" diagonal) on one wall and run the HD through a projector hung from the ceiling. The cost of doing this was much, much, much cheaper than buying even a 42" HD widescreen. It is literally like being there when you watch a football game. And movies.....the sound is terrific. We really enjoy it!
Wow.....a TV fast.......hmmm.......boy, that would be a good one.......But football season?..........hmmm.
I have one, but we don't have cable, satellite, or even rabbit ears. It's strictly used for watching movies, which I can regulate. DS keeps it busy between Thomas the Tank Engine, Veggie Tales, and Dukes of Hazzard. Otherwise, we don't watch it.
My parents "pulled the plug" when I was a kid, and now it just drives me nuts to be in a house where it's on constantly.
Mine is mostly on "Between the Lions." I record the episodes off of PBS onto my computer, and make my own DVD's. And then there is Netflix. I can watch Batman: TAS, just started Superman: TAS. And of course, thanks to ebay, I have 24 out of 28 seasons of Star Trek.
Just need TNG Seaons 6 and 7, and Enterprise 3 and 4 to be complete.
Even if I watch broadcast television, its usually after I've made my own dvd's and removed all the commercials on my own time.
I just found this. We have 6:
1-garage, 1-gameroom, 1-livingroom, 1-computer room, 1-my bedroom and 1-spare bedroom. Except, the last mentioned TV is in my son's bedroom and he doesn't live here anymore. That's when I realized it was the "spare" bedroom. Which made me realize the "we" is just "me".
So, "I" actually have 6 TV's. I'd rather have 0 TV's and 6 people living here.
In my house, PBS, LifeTime and MTV are all blocked. My house is not a Democracy.
I put in two. I always swore there would be no TV in the bedroom. But then my husband travels a fair bit and I found myself wanting to curl up in bed and watch a late night show. Hence two.
Now.. I do have one of those teeny tiny car size portable DVD players too.
I just have 3...
one's a big flat screen tho
