Good riddance too.  I was unemployed the first five months of it only to have dad come down ill with cancer a month after finding work.  We worried almost a month until his surgery and three months after that getting him recovered.

Nice poem with a good, positive message, but isn't the background music that incredibly depressing country song that was out a few years ago about everybody getting old and dying?

That's okay, though, not everyone reacts to that song the way I do.

Yeah, it ain't exactly been a sparkling year for me either.

Love the "clean slate effect" of a new year.

Yeah, everyone develops different associations.

I like the message of that song about the "All-Seeing Eye Watching You".  (Ev'ry step that you take, this great Eye is awake... Ev'ry day, mind the course you persue...)

Since I know the One Whose eye it is loves me, I don't mind Him watching out for me.

One of our elders' wives has hated that song from early childhood, though.  Gives her the creeps.  Great big ol' bloodshot EYE watching her every move...

Sort of a Sauron-of-Mordor eye.

I find the website that poem came from useful... some of the content is, ah, of questionable taste... and I wouldn't vouch for the theology of every inspirational e-card available... but, in general, I like it.

Here we are, first day back in school for my boys (earlier than usual, hurricane days to make up).  As usual, 17-yr-old is knocked out on the sofa, having taken various medicines for his breathing and wisdom-teeth-induced severe jaw pain.

Off we go to the Dr. again.

At least we didn't go yesterday.  Superstition tells me I'll be doomed to repeat a lot of the activities of Jan. 1 all year.

Wouldn't be bad... lots of sleep, a church meeting in the p.m., hubby got to ride around like some sort of Cajun Santa, leaving sacks of oyster mushrooms in his wake...  It oughta be a good year, if the superstition is valid!
