Thanks for the Sibelius recommendation, sounds unbelievable! By the way, have you tried the Sibelius composing software? My wife is looking for some good music notation software to score some flute ensemble work she is doing with university students???

To all of you with insomnia; I suffered with this periodically for some time, mostly with waking up feeling a sense of panic. Then, after much prayer to help me calm down, an insight came to me; Use the time..." so, sounds simplistic, but I would say: "Thank you God for giving me an opportunity to do a little reading," so on would go the light and I would read a page or two of something like DeWitt Burton's Moods and Tenses of the Greek New Testament, then I would usually awaken later to find the light on and the book on my chest.

James, no, I don't need a mouse ... or whatever you said! LOL

I am about to turn in here. It is a little past 12:20 AM Monday, January 27.  I had fallen asleep, still clothed in my Sunday (casual today) attire, sans shoes, deep under the covers. Don't anyone disfellowship me for this, but I didn't care about watching the Superbowl, and getting under the covers and getting warm sounded inviting .. and I fell asleep. However, my husband, the love of my life, in his consideration of my internet addiction, came and woke me up a little past 10 PM: "Darling, would you like to get up and use the computer?" I was too groggy to know at that point, but the shock of awakening made me hafta take a trip to the bathroom, which led to me changing into sleeping attire, which led to me becoming more fully awake. So I made us a late night snack of guacamole 'n chips, had mine with a diet Pepsi (that's what was on sale this week; I really prefer diet Coke), enjoyed some half-awake time here on the board, and now here at ... about 12:30 AM now ... I'm about to hit it.

I'd just like to encourage all your husbands out there to be as considerate of your wives as mine is of me: if she falls asleep before you are done with the computer, wake her up when you're finished just in case she wants to use it but fell asleep by mistake.  ;)  :sarcasim:

I've been known to stay up all hours. It comes and goes with me ... I'll have several nights of insomnia, then I'll play catch up. I went to bed after supper last night and slept about 14 hours, save for getting up once or twice to "make wee-wee" as we polite people say. But yeah, basically 14 hours straight. Felt good. I had some weird dream about a word game that I wish I could remember. It had to do with somehow combining a couple of words and phrases, or something like that, so you'd get a whole new "quote" with a totally different meaning.

(P.S.  Maybe I was dreaming about proof-texting?  :D )

dj, I vote for Sibelius' Symphony No 5, but that keeps me awake. Music that puts me to sleep would be music I do not care for or get emotionally involved with, so guess that would be something like M&M turned down to zero.

This has been horrible tonight!  I mean... this morning.  Whatever.  I can't even begin to figure out why I was so tired at Midnight, but so wide awake ten minates after my head found hit the pillow.  Low these 4+ hours later, here I sit again.

Perhaps I shall write a song... I think it would have to be country.  Yes, indeed, country.   I shall call it, "My life used to be a country and western song, but now I'm just up all stinkin' night long."

Well... at least it rhymes.  Whatdaya' expect for 4:30AM?

Ok. I know I'm not going to get much sympathy from my favorite peer group ... but here goes. It's January, after midnight in San Diego and it's TOO HOT TO SLEEP! I'm a grown 40-year-old woman and I still have a bedtime.

That is, whenever Mike says "Let's go to bed," it's time.

If I really-truly can't sleep, I'll go to the computer, the Bible, the current novel... I might even put on some music and wash laundry, something useful.

But, usually, I have absolutely no trouble sleeping when Mike puts me to bed.

I think it has something to do with sleeping the gentle sleep of the guiltless... If my Michael tells me to give up on all the worthwhile things I could should would be doing, & get on to bed, well then, it's his fault if the world falls apart in the morning 'cause XYZ wasn't accomplished, right?

Yeah, that's it.  I sleep the gentle guiltless restful sleep of the just, 'cause I can blame it all on Mike! (*Yawn*)  What freedom...

btw, I barely remember the LRB song.  Was it Glen Shorrock/Little River Band, or was it in the brief, unlamented Johnny Farnham/LRB period (redeemed only by the presence of Cold Chisel drummer Steven Prestwich).  Or am I becoming delerious?

I think I took the antihistimine too close to my diabetes medication.

Top of the mairnin to all that are to be found here and to those that slumber on

Calm be you sleep as infant slumbers!
Pure as angel thoughts your dreams!
May ever joy this bright world nimbers
Shed o'er thee thier mingled beams!

Thomas Moore
Irish songwriter 1779-1852

Like me Granda, I am the early riser. And I remember with him saying this poem over my sleeping family when he and I would rise in the wee hours.  Today I say it over Sandi as she slumbers behind me in the bed, the breath whistling so softly on her lips, her face so innocent and angelical as she relaxes from the stress of the day. She looks like a wee colleen when she sleeps, so pure and shameless. Allow me to say it over all of you as well.

Just putting the finishing touches on today's sermon and as I see the sun beginning to peek in the window, I must go feed the birds with a special conversation with the parrot. He likes to wake up on my shoulder, so I bring him out and set him there. Then as I prepare their feeding I can hear his early morning mutterings. Of course if I do not , I will hear his strident early morning demands for his breakfast!!
Bunny will be waiting at the door and if I tarry and am late I will hear the inquisitive "Woof" out side the window. At times I wonder who is the master here!

But then I realize the Master here is Christ Jesus and I am only given temporary stewardship of my furry feathered family here.

God Bless all and the response to "Top of the mairnin" is

"And the rest of the day to you!!"

Dia Dhuitt!!!

Vivaldi helps me sometimes, but when I'm really bad, like I have been lately, nothing helps.  I have the feeling tonight will be a long one, what with this bronchial whatever it is I'm fighting, which causes me to start coughing as soon as I fall asleep.  And if that doesn't happen, the whining noise in my chest wakes me up.

Then again, maybe being sick will help me sleep.  After all, I couldn't sleep when I was well. :help:

Sorry, this is why I shouldn't post on medication.

When I read the line the song "Where have all the flowers gone?" started playing in my mind.  I know Pete Seeger wrote the song, but it's being sung in my head by a group.  Peter, Paul & Mary, maybe? ???

David:  Holst 1st Suite in Eb here earlier  (Chicago VII now...) How are you going to be functional at church in the morning?  I've explained to my bros/sis that I wouldn't do them much good if I did make the effort to attend services after staying up all night.  My brain turns to mush after about 9:00 a. m. the times I've tried... I'm not much of an encouragement or coherent participant in any form of worship/fellowship.  I'm in great shape (after a day's sleep) for the evening service!

No overnight posts last night from this quarter.  Slept a full seven hours straight for the first time in at least a month.   :zzzz: Two months, when I stop and think about it.  Maybe because they finally let us know last night that they'll be announcing our layoffs next week (as the great American philosopher Thomas Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part).  I'll probably be spared, but who knows?  Somehow the announcement takes away some of the uncertainty. Been waiting for them to even give us a clue ever since United's bankruptcy filing.
