that all of us are going to die some day and meet our Maker.
Even if you are a world class athlete in his prime you are not indestructable, it appears Corrales died in a motorcycle accident leaving behind a wife and 4 children. He had issues with the law having to serve a year sentence for spousal abuse in 2001.
For the record, Corrales was one of the most exciting fighters (unlike run around the ring Floyd Mayweather) of our generation. His comeback KO of Jose Luis Castillo 2 years ago to the date of his untimely death is considered by many the greatest fight of the last 10 years. Corrales had great power, but a suspect chin, but he never ran from any opponent even when he was in trouble. He did fight Mayweather (one of the few exciting fights Mayweather has ever had), and was floored 5 times before Mayweather finally finsihed him off.
His first fight with Joel Casermayor was destined to be a classic before a cut on Corrales forced the fight to be stopped in round 6. Casermayor floored Corrales twice in the first 3 rounds and appeared to be on cruise control when Corrales leveled Caremayor in the 4th with a devastating left hook. The two traded shots for 2 straight rounds and again Corrales had Casermayor in big trouble in the 6th. The fight was stopped on Corrales cut or this could have been the 2nd greatest fight of the last 10 years.
Corrales never ran from anyone, if boxing is so depserate to save its sport, they should promote fights involving Diego Corrales type competitors. Guys who will stand toe to toe and trade even when they are badly hurt or outclassed. Not Floyd Mayweathers, who throw one punch and then run for 20-30 seconds...
my humble 2 cents
