: Is being a single Christian Gods plan?
: chris_toronto Sat Aug 09, 2008 - 10:34:00
I know that God created Adam first. But after some time God realized that it was not good for the man to be alone and so He created an help meet for him, that being Eve.
Do you think God looks upon us single folks the same way as He looked upon Adam? Will He also provide an help meet for us single folks?

Sometimes he will.  Sometimes he gives the gift of celibacy - see 1 Corinthians 7.

Course, one should be able to recognize their gift...  ::pondering::

I think that it is important to try to see a plan in our lives.  This is not always easy.

I am divorced.  I would like to marry again one day, but for the time being I want to enjoy being single.

If I marry again, then I want to take the time to see it as part of a plan that God has for me.

Although my relationship with my ex-wife is strained (understatement), I am still on very good terms with several members of her close family, and that is important to me.  I think that my relationship with my ex-in-laws is very much part of God's plan for me.  For example, I have helped two of them come to Jesus. ::cool::

No, it is up to the individual to seek out a mate, God does not do that for us.

I think God intends for all of us to have a mate, to love and be loved by.

That being said, I believe He can also intend for us to resolve issues or fulfill another plan before we can truly be a part of a healthy relationship.

In my dating experience I have found that many have some REALLY big issues that they are nearly blind to.  Be it anger, jealousy, deceitfulness, etc. - I think sometimes it is best to first pray for the clarity to see God's plan for the next step in your life, if it is in His will.

For me, though I fought against it for two years I finally came to realize God wanted me to stop dating for awhile.  And it was at least another year before I peacefully accepted it.  I had things to learn, things I couldn't learn amidst the distraction of dating.  It was a hard pill for me to swallow at the time, I was so lonely and had so much I wanted to share with someone.  Now I am thankful, for the things I have learned make me a MUCH better person.  I have grown as a Christian in ways I could not do while dating - for many of those I chose were non-Christians who constantly subjected my faith to their ridicule and doubt.  I could not grow as a Christian while in a constant state of defense.  I was making the wrong choices, repeatedly - so God removed me from the entire dating scene until I could see the consequences of the choices I had made.

I also see that I needed that time to focus on my son, for reasons that are more than clear to me now, but I had NO idea about before.  God knows what He's doing - and frankly just seeing that at work in my life helped me to grow my trust and faith in the Lord.

Just my thoughts... :)

A lot of people would disagree with that.  Many single people go out and actively seek relationships, but equally many single people meet their ideal partner quite by chance.

You never know where or when you might meet your future spouse.  Searching is okay, but arguably fruitless.

The bible does say that being single and childless gives a person more time to concentrate on God's Word.  I don't know how comforting that is, though.

The exception to a rule should not be taken as normative. If you stay home and never go out, you won't meet any one, that is just common sense.

Even in the case of someone meeting someone great without having to look, they still must take the initiative to declare their feelings, they still must run the risk of being rejected.

Some people think God will magically do EVERYTHING for them, but this goes against scripture. Every where in the bible, people are told to be diligent and to persevere, not sit there doing nothing.
