: Nephelim, Raphahim, and the sword of Goliath ( David's Sword)
: Will Lee Thu Oct 23, 2008 - 23:41:20
I think that a lot of folks do not understand the Genesis accounts of the giants, or sometimes called Nephelim. What are your takes on them?

Also, the giant Goliath, when David was given victory over the evil Giant by God, David took the giants own sword and cut off his head. We later saw that the sword had been kept by the high priest in the tabernacle tent, but David later went back and got the sword. Any idea of where the sword was made, or where it later went to?

The sword itself is not so important, though the early church of the dark ages did place a lot of importance to relics. But, it might be useful for Christians to remember where the Nephelim came from.  ::shrug::

my take on the nephalim was that they were NOT the product of an union between angels and earthly women.  doesn't fit, no scriptural reference to back up the idea and how would one explain the giants that were in existance after the flood.

they seemed to come into existence the normal way like everyone else.  the more important question is WHY were they mentioned at that point and only that point?

answer-- it provides the reason why the flood waters had to go so high above the peaks of the mtns.  though they would have starved if the waters didn't that isn't the point, the punishment was death by drowning not starving.

Genesis 6:3-5 (New International Version)
3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with [a] man forever, for he is mortal ; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.

Easy! Genesis 6:

1 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with  man forever, for he is mortal: his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

Was Goliath a genetic occurance of the Nephelom/ Raphahim gene? Did the genes just resurface in some kind of concentration with him and his brothers, or was there perhaps some kind of dark, pagan counter religeous breeding program by the Caananite pagans to rebreed these genes back to a purer strain? Remember king Og, the Caanite king who was a giant as well?

For kicks and giggles, try looking up archaeological evidence for giants in North America.  Apparently, a number of oversized caucazoid skeletons have been unearthed here that pre-date the discovery of the new world significantly.

It makes sense that it would genetic.

Deu 3:11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead [was] a bedstead of iron; [is] it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits [was] the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.
Deu 3:12 And this land, [which] we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which [is] by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.
Deu 3:13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, [being] the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.

Seems they had their own lands at some point.

Also seems that God was not happy with them.  In addition to the flood story, Job records that their remnant was consumed by fire:

Job 22:  Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood: Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?  ...  Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.

Also, theirs lands are part of those that God chose for the Israelites to occupy.

The Israelites had issues with them again on the way to Israel, and God ordered Saul to genocide the remnant of their posterity (the Amorites).  That's where Bashan is...er...was.

Yah.  Don't cross God.  He has a long memory.

I think that these giants wanted to be worshiped as some occult ritual. I suspect that occultist today still want them to come back somehow?

I thought the cult of giant worship was founded in Springfield, MA by a guy named Naismith.

I think we all need to get out there and tell these slimy reptilians to get off our planet and take all the other garbage with them. They have kept this world in bondage long enough. (Before we throw them in the lake of fire ourselves.) Does anybody know they are running our planet? Are we just going to sit back on this one? GOD does not exxpect us to sit back and take it. Are we stronger or are they?

After the garden incident of Genesis 3, it is man's character to look at everything with his PHYSICAL eyes -- see Genesis 3:7 -- eyes became open.

So on first look at this Scripture about "Giants," we think PHYSICAL giants.

But that is not it.

The "giants" were, as it goes on to say in the rest of verse 4, mighty men, men of renown.
And then verse 5 -- "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."

The "Giants" were renown, "socially" powerful men, who were wicked and Godless.

So why does the Bible give us physical descriptions of Goliath and King Og?

The Bible gives physical descriptions for a lot of people.

The Bible told us that there were giants, gave us physical descriptions, and is quite clear on that point. There were physical giants that God dealt with.
Socially and politically important as well? I do not doubt that these were powerful men, socially as well as physically. In that I agree with you.
But God casted them down. They were his enemies.
So it is not unusual to think that socially and politically powerful men who would grasp at the occult would have a sick fascination of all things evil. The occult is the enemy of God, and they would seek to gravitate towards any enemy of God, and it makes sense that it would include the fallen giants.
