If man is still alive...

If woman can survive...

Yeah...  I remembered ... and I haven't even clicked on the video.

I think that's the next year the Reds are planning on contending.

Half the stuff in the song is being done today

Half the stuff in the song is being done today

That is relevant when one considers the song was written in 1969, long before public knowledge of robotics and test-tube babies.

In case someone doesn't want to listen to it, but is interested in the lyrics, here they are:

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, or say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to do
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs not nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you

In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long black tube

In the year 7510
If God's a-comin' he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
Guess it's time for the Judgement day

In the year 8510
God's gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man's gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been 10,000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through the eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

I was coming into my teens when that song was recorded, and they were talking about test tube babies at that time.  We did in my Science class. I didn't like that song, my cousin played it all the time... but it was depressing to me, and you couldn't dance to it. LOL.

We put a man on the moon, and robotics were being used.  I really don't think we will go to 7575 before God has judgment day.

Also, back then, we had air-raid drills at school to teach us that our wooden desks could protect us from nuclear blast. And let's not forget the film "Refer Madness" in health class that taught us one hit from a joint would cause us to turn completely and irreversibly psychotic.  Ahhh, I long for the good old days. :)

It was written and recorded before my time but, yes, I have heard this eerie song before.
A chilling message.

I remember the Duck and Cover movie. In one part of it a kid hears the air raid siren and instantly jumps over the end of the couch he was sitting on to cower behind it. The whole class howled with laughter. What do they scare school kids with now, drugs and disease? They are nothing compared to total annihilation by the evil Reds.

And my mother believed that Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were minions of the Devil.  Luckily, my dad was an intelligent man and he kept her implementing any of her foolishness as the law of the house.

$10 says that film was made by a Tobacco company

Maybe. The Marlboro Man and Joe Camel were all over the TV back then. Tide was already "new and improved" then too.

...Maxwell Smart was the most popular spy, Scottie was "givin her all she's got" and and mom was very upset because dad let me watch Laugh-In and they showed scantally clad unvirtuous women.

They never taught me this nonsense...  A desk? No way... they took us to the basement and had us put our head down to our knees and cover our heads.  Sheesh... A desK?

I grew up in Pasadena, CA (N. suburb of LA). No basements there. That's where I got the saying, "Our tax dollars at work."  When I would come home from school and tell my dad some of the stuff they had us do, he would always just shake his head and say in a sarcastic voice, "That's our tax dollars at work."  But in all fairness, in the case of nuclear blast, it's unlikely the basement would have saved you either. The public school system was just as messed up then as it is now, we are just more aware of it now.

I think the whole duck and cover under the desk thing was to give young children hope maybe? If they believed they were safe it would be a more comforting end.

A basement would be very likely to save you. As long as you were not actually in the blast radius. Even then, perhaps a 3 or 4 storey basement with a re-enforced bunker inside could have saved u as long a you are nto at ground zero.

A basement, 40ish miles from ground zero, with food etc and an internal re-enforced room for the first 2-4 weeks could probably save u

For those skeptics out there who haven't taken the time to learn how to survive a nuclear blast....

They test that siren where I live every couple of years. It is the most insidious, expletive yourself noise ever devised.
